Tetracycline is for eye infections I believe. You should try Tylan 50 or Duramycin for respiratory illness. However, make sure you follow directions with dosage and also DO NOT harvest eggs for 30 days after starting.
I have 24 hens and they eat a 40lb sack of food every week. Does that seem right? They didn't go through this way food in the summer, fall, and early winter.
Mine are exactly like this. I tried to feed them all types of lettuce/spinach but they refuse to eat it. However, the entire flock will destroy a head of cabbage in a day or two when I hang it in their run.
What type of container do you guys use to give oyster shells/grit to your flock?
I need some ideas to offer these without the chickens scratching and spreading all over the coop.
Not sure if this is the right thread but I was wondering if it's alright to let chickens mate who are siblings? I mean, I'm not letting them but they run free and I'm sure will keep breeding.
If not, what should I do to make them stop? Trap and cull?
My Old English Game Bantam laid 18 eggs and finally set on them a couple weeks ago. The hatch date was supposed to be 8/17 but they've been hatching the past couple days with a few more pipped and on the way.
My understanding is that they were all supposed to hatch together. Now I'm confused...
Mine hatched 9 out her 18 eggs yesterday. So should I remove the chicks to a brooder and let her hatch the rest? If I do that, will she accept the chicks if they're out of her sight for a week or so? I don't want her to peck them when returned after the remaining eggs are hatched.
I have eggs that hatched a week earlier than what I thought because the hen didn't start going broody until two weeks ago. However, when I went to check on her in the morning as I usually do, there were a few chicks hatched. When I returned from work today, there was a total of seven chicks...
I just grabbed a few and brought them home to release them in my backyard. My original plan was to build a pen along my back fence but I read that they'll survive on their own.
Maybe next summer I will build that pen. It's got trees that are big enough for roosting spot but small enough to...
