In the past when I've sold hens that weren't very good compared to the standard I just priced them the same as local Easter eggers and call them that basically.
This is an important concept. Except system efficiency changes the answer about how much of any animal a certain landscape can support (per acre) and finding better ways to use the same stuff (or using more of what's available) is where all the interest comes in for me. I'm really considering an...
lol awesome. Best plan I've heard. Haven't read the whole thread yet. My current feeble attempt at this (aside from the usual garden scraps and fodder) is going to be meal worms and black soldier fly larvae. If I had a couple milk goats I would be giving the girls some goats milk too. Maybe someday.
My hatch is done early and I wanted to report my numbers. I got 12 out of the 27 in the hatch along. All 6 of the bantams hatched, but they weren't part of the hatch along. In general certain breeds did much worse than others even though they weren't shipped.
All of the eggs from the...

One baby out this morning when I woke up. It's a blue Olive Egger chick. The first blue chick I've seen personally.
One of the Legbar eggs pipped too! Those 4 Legbar eggs are the ones I'm most interested in because I sold all my birds a few months ago and these eggs are from a sweet cream...
I have a bunch of eggs due to hatch on the 19th and I usually don't even hope to see a single pip in those eggs until the night before hatch day. Sometimes they surprise me and pip earlier. I guess it was lucky I had a few chicks due mid-week this week to get my fix so I can give the other eggs...
5 out of 6 of the bantam d'uccle eggs have hatched out, and the 6th one is well on the way. I think it'll be 100% on the first hatch for the incuvue. These weren't part of the HAL though because a broody was on them a day or 2. They are so cute because they all have different amounts of white...
