Cream Legbars

I recently lost all of my adult chickens including my cream legbars. This included my pure cream girl and my best cockerel. Hopefully, the chicks that I had prior to the loss and hatched since will test clean and I can go forward. Some of these young ones are showing very good colors and temperaments. The State vet tech is coming tomorrow afternoon so I will get some final testing done and be clear of the blight that two asymptomatic birds that were added to my flock after a 3-4 week quarantine caused.

So I am hoping that those good genes and colors were passed along.

Folks, after going through this horrendous experience, I have now have really good news to report. VDACS tested all of my chicks on Saturday and the results are in. All chicks were negative (clean!) for MG/MS.

Mr. Markley,
I just received the attached test results. All the samples that were collected on Saturday are negative. If you have any further questions, please let me know.

So I can finally move ahead. Many thanks to the folks who supported me and expressed concern, it was gratifying and very much appreciated.

good news, thanks for the Update

So I've been thinking about barring and what direction I should go in. After much debate and discussion with a few long time breeders I've decided to follow my original idea of going with the more evenly spaced dark gray and white barring. I am going to work on making it more even. This is the breast of the rooster I am going to use in one of the pens. He is also a nice sized boy but his comb has the dreaded twist.
.

This is my oldest male, Macbeth. I will be breeding him again this year in another pen to see what he throws but I do not think like how tight this barring is and that the white is a bit muddy. It is too dark for me. I want something more defined and evenly barred so we'll see what comes of it.

This is my oldest Juvie. His barring seems more cuckoo than I care for. He will not be bred for my purposes so I'll find somewhere to use him.... maybe EEs or as a just in case, or maybe I'll toss him some girls in the summer just to see what he throws.

This is my youngest boy. He needs some filling out to do still. I like his overall look and type but he is just to dark for me still. I am going to try for a wider white band but he'll get his own pen as I'm interested to see what he will throw and compare in the end.

I'm going to hold on to my male chicks again this year to see what I get and compare at the end. I'm going to see if I can go through the photos I took and tell any differences with each of the different barrings as the boys grew.

The white sport trio seems to be fertile and the eggs are incubating fine. Just waiting to see what pops out in a couple weeks as I cannot verify 100% that the ones in the first hatch are from the rooster in there.

thats a sound plan, now to identify the females that will be able to help you on this path,
