Cream Legbars

There seem to be a lot of problems with shipped eggs quitting recently. My guess is that the horrible winter is going to have long effects on breeding this year.

Sorry you lost you eggs. I recently lost 26 English orp eggs that were shipped. So I understand your frustration. I have not even set any of my Cream Legbar eggs yet because of the weather.

the good news is that the ones that make it are as tough as nails and will pass this trait to their progeny

Her pelvic bones will shrink when she stops laying and expand when she starts laying again.

The only chicken uglier than a silky is a showgirl.......look that one up........and people breed those things on purpose????????

I guess you know I think naked necks are ugly too.....

God, I love it. Bahahahaha

Hatch day for my shipped eggs. Nothing hatched. Only 2 made it to lockdown. Late quitters.

I am very sorry!

I have horrible luck with shipped eggs. I think its the altitude + USPS handling + packaging= terrible hatch rates. They say with shipped eggs expect a 50% hatch rate. I started there but have an expectation of 0% hatching so anything is a success. I have started putting my own flock's eggs into the incubator alongside the shipped so that I can know if it is problems with my incubation or with the shipping (so far its the shipping).

The worst are the late quitters. Its so sad to be so close to the finish line and then have them die. I hope that you have better luck in the future!

I have contacted a BYC seller located near my vacation area. I reserved a trio of started birds for mid June pickup. I knew the risk as I have been on both sides of shipped eggs. Disappointed but not mad.

I found it interesting when I incubated 2 sets of shipped eggs from the same BYC source, one group of BCM, one of CL. I thought I would have a significantly better hatch rate with the CL's than the Marans, and it was just the opposite. They were small samples, but the Marans hatched 6/7 in classic, speedy pip & zip style, while only 3/7 CL's popped out, and one was a slow exit.

Overall I suppose the hatch rate was average, but it did seem to differ based on breed.
