$33 IS for organic whole grain feed. Its shipped in from VA to the store in Gainesville. I have looked EVERYWHERE for organic feed producers, but can't find anyone close enough for me to order from to beat my current rate of $33...
Unfortunately, the organic livestock feed movement...
I use Earth Pets Organic out of gainesville, FL too. I haven't have any issues with my feed molding or spoiling.
I would love to reduce my feed cost, but haven't a clue to how to get it lower than approx, $33 per 50-lb bag. If I could, without having to purchase in large bulk amounts I would...
I second the "earth pets organics" location... I live in Ocala, FL about 45 minutes south of Gainesville... The only way I can beat Earth Pets is to order 45 or more 50-lb bags from their supplier in VA... I can't use that much feed before it spoils...
so, I buy from them.
I would love to...
They are gr8!!!
In fact, I just added 5 midget whites to the mix...
I did, however, lose 5 meaties to a fox two nights ago... I added skirting around my tractor yesterday and that should fix it...
At least I think it should...
Thanks for checking up on them!
My poults are finally eating from the feeder!!!
Here they are:
Who'd a thunk it
thanks for all the help...
Right now, I'm planning on adding the chick grit starting next weekend... And then free choicing it in the tractor... That's how I do it with my chickens... Any reason's why...
I have just finished "starting" my poults... I had to put marbles in the water AND put the feed in a pan made of crumpled up aluminum foil (shiny side up)... to teach them to peck at the food...
I would say starting turkeys is a little more difficult.... BUT, not the end of the world...
That's what so great about this whole forum!!!
On a different note, with my chickens I always add some MannaPro chick grit to their feed once they get 2-3 weeks old to help with digestion. Once they are big enough to go outside I always have some free choice, but don't mix it into the feed...

So funny!!!
I gotta tell ya, I just went through teaching mine to eat their food and not each other's beaks or their own toes... (mine did the toe thing too...)
Anyway, I fixed the food thing by simply putting feed in shiny aluminum foil... They saw "shiny" and tried to eat it and...
will do. Thanks for the info and for listening/getting back to me... Having someone to discuss/bounce ideas off of is important. This forum gives us such a wealth of knowledge that I would never have access to otherwise.
All's well!!! I got home to a chorus of chirps and cheeps!!!
They are definitely eating from the foil. Now, how do I transition them over to the feeder?
WOW! It's so easy for us to say "report her!" BUT, how many of us would just take care of the chicks rather than see them harmed. Reporting a neighbor is BIG step... BUT, it IS something that must be done for the sake of the animal/children/situation...
Unfortunately, the person that is...
Here is my first ever picture post... Hope it works...
I'll post more this evening when I get home...
You can see the feeder bottom, waterer, aluminum foil, swimming pool, towels, heat lamp, etc... Basically, you can see my set up...
I'll shut up now and just post the pic...
More to come...
