My 11 month old Mallard/Runner brothers in their little pond I dug in a natural spring creek. Unless it rains, it's often a dry creek bed.
There were 4, but something got him several weeks before taking this on 5/4/25. Momma Trixie of course had all boys.

My ducklings when they were almost 4 weeks old, Pompom (f) and Peep-Peep (m). He's very protective over her. I gave them 4/5/25 as their birthday. (I had to crop the hen that was getting a drink out)

Yes, I'm aware Silkies are chickens. Thank you for pointing it out.I was distracted by my guineas going off, the flock was free ranging. I thought they saw or heard a predator. I need to edit that as I was deleting and writing, but didn't pay attention that the number was wrong when I posted it...
I don't have the room to accommodate multiple hatches. I don't hatch or buy babies during summer months. I have one large brooder and a slightly smaller one I will use when the ducks reach 7-14 days old and I have to switch them to duck feed. Usually by the second week, ducks are too big to...
Thank you. I had been thinking of adding the standard chicken eggs and Silkie eggs after the others were set, where guinea and duck eggs take about 26-28 days. I could do it when candling those eggs. I've hatched ducks and standard chickens together about 6-7 years ago, but I've never hatched...
I need advice on hatching 4 poultry species in same incubator. My hope is to try to hatch 2-3 duck eggs, up to 7 guinea eggs, 3-4 standard chicken eggs and 3-4 Silkie bantam eggs all in the same incubator. I only have one incubator and 1 brooder tank for guineas and chickens. I've raised all...
If allowed, I'd like to submit a different photo. I hadn't intended for my eggs photo to be a submission. I forgot to mark it as "not an entry".
I'd like to submit this one instead.
My only 2 babies so far this year. I finally gave them names - Pompom, female, Crested Indian Runner duckling, 6...
My bad, I hadn't intended the egg photo to be an entry. I was just showing what I found. Sadly none of the 17 eggs shown hatched. The ducks quit laying on them after we had a few below 35°F nights in a row. Only 9 were fertilized, after candling each one and seeing blood rings in each one, I...
The white one is a Crested Runner, her roommate is also a Runner. I haven't seen his color before and would like to know what his is. I thought he was a fan & white, but doesn't look color wise like my adult one. They're almost 6 weeks, the Crested is already quacking (about 10 days now), he's...
Thank you for saving the baby. I have a Mallard duck named Trixie, she and another duckling were injured at a feed/supply store by bigger ducklings so I asked about buying them at 1/2 price. The one died from complications of a leg injury the next day, the other, Trixie is now a 12 time momma of...
These 2 babies are almost a month old. I got them at Rural King on 4/9 and was told they were about 4 days old, so I gave them an April 5th birthday. The Crested Runner is definitely a female, but I'm not 100% sure on the other. I'm leaning towards being a drake due to a little rapsiness in...
