Some of mine during winter over the years. Some don't care how much snow or how cold it is, others prefer to stay inside. Most of my ducks stay outside year round regardless of weather, but I have an area for feed and water inside out of the cold.
Thank you. They're just 9 of my 46 chickens, plus 26 ducks and 7 guineas. Currently between my different pens, I have at least 6 known roosters - on the fence with the black silkie looking one. Ragtop is often in the coop with my Jersey Giant and blue splash Brahma at night, they accepted him in...
Here's a few as to how they look now. My older cinnamon queen I got from Rural King 1st was found dead the next day, 17 hours after I moved them into their own 4'×8' coop. It seems she was jumping around testing her wings and possibly struck her head on the roost or roof rafter based on her...
I wanted to post an update on my boy Ragtop. He turned out gorgeous with shades of rust, gold, black that shines iridescent green. His walnut comb is red with a few black spots (not cooperative with closeup shots yet). He's tried testing me a few time, by attempting to flog me from behind. When...
I'm just curious, how's the chick now? Has the chick been doing better or did you have to... cull it?
I had this happen to a newly hatched chick a few days ago. The outcome wasn't good. Her intestine was already purple in areas and everyone said to cull her. When I went to get her to cull, I...
God has a way of helping when it comes to culling an injured, sick, or defective baby at times for me. I went to do what I needed to do, I told the hen sorry, she looked at me then the baby and stood atop of her stomping her feet with her wings covering what she was doing. Nature told her what...
😭😭😭 Thanks all. I had a bad feeling on this. I'm giving her a little time with the momma who hatched her. She's so excited to be a momma. I discovered 2 eggs also under her, no idea how long they've been there. The momma took over from my Rouen duck who sat on the egg for 2 weeks
I just found this chick hatched a few minutes ago. It's insides are outside via vent. What should I do? Never had this happen in a newly hatched chick. It's a Silkie Egger.
@casportpony, What other calendar contest are available each year? I think I can recall one for ducks, but my guineas are are bit jealous and would like to know if there's a contest for them.
This is Caty, a Silkie and her Silkie chick (on her back). Another hen hatched the other chicks who are Silkie Eggers, but she demanded out a week later, so Caty took them in. Sadly the Silkie chick suddenly passed at 32 days old and Caty followed, also passing week later with no explanation...
I've had other roosters in the past named Chevelle, Duece, Dodge, Slick (racing slicks) and Phantom. I started naming the roosters after automotive related things with Duece. My 2 standard roosters, Brock and Carter were named by my boyfriend after I told him I needed 2 rooster names. My uncles...
Well I can say 100% certainty that my baby is a cockerel. I was cleaning out their brooder and sure enough, there it was shining in the light, the unmistakable color of red mixed among his black/white/gray feathers.
Well, so far that makes 2 young roosters. I have another Silkie Egger cockerel...
If my busy mind doesn't forget, I'll post some updated photos of what all the ones in the photos are growing up to look like.
In the meanwhile, I'd like to see some photos of when yours hatch @redinator.
