OK so this is my first attempt at my page: A couple of pics to start and I'll go from there ;)
So here's the "Chilton Hotel"...lol.
2 story chicken condo w/ attached run. It's made with privacy fencing on 3 sides so there is enough spacing between the boards to allow for plenty of ventilation...

Thanks Madgabmomma. I need a few hugs tonight Funny ...hens right back on the roost next to her boyfriend tonight like nothing happened. Guess I'm the only one who's not happy about this..lol!
Congrats on your first hatch! I was hoping for my first on 05/06 and my hen came off her nest today and would not go back on. She had started w/ 5 eggs then one went bad. She did fine with that. Then today I went out and she is standing out of the nest squawking with a broken, bloody egg shell...

Interesting read. I give a layer feed and free choice calcium and have not had thin shells, so I don't think such is the case here.
As far as the pattern on the egg, I am thinking more along the lines that the hen got interrupted while laying the egg just as the speckling function was...

Awesome idea! Thanks! I will keep that in mind tonight for inside the roost if they seem to have trouble with the temps getting too low. I only have 5 chickens, but the roost is only 4'wide x 4'long x 3' tall in front graduates to 2' in back so adding a jug or two might just be perfect...
I feed free choice a complete layer feed, scratch, calcium and grit. Everything is in their covered run and the heated waterer is in the insulated lower level of the coop. They don't care much to come out of the run to free range when the ground is covered w/ snow but as soon as small patches...
The rain has stopped. It's 25degrees now so what is coming down is frozen. I don't have corregated, just flat cardboard boxes. My concern is the humidity that may build if I close up the small gaps between boards so am hoping the cardboard will absorb. I will also be putting petroleum jelly on...
