    The Plymouth Rock Breeders thread

I've noticed that several folks have mentioned breeding a roo to his own mother... wouldn't the inbreeding have a negative effect on the birds?

    Late layers

Well, they're all different. I have a Lavender Orpington, a Rhode Island Red, and what I think is an Easter Egger. I also have a stray chicken we adopted, and she's not laying either. Looks like a Barred Rock to me, but I have NO idea how old she is. Older, I suspect.

I have some hens that are, to the best of my knowledge, about 7 months old. Not one of them has ever lain an egg. Their faces are starting to redden up, and I haven't added any artificial light to their pen, so I assume this is normal since it's wintertime? Was just looking for some feedback...

And while we're at it... what breed is this hen?

And I knew she wasn't RIR, she just was in the batch. I have one very cute RIR, but I wasn't thinking that's what she was.

And while we're at it... what breed is this hen?

My lavender orp has a comb just like hers? But if she's an EE, that's perfectly fine with me. I wanted one anyway. :)

And while we're at it... what breed is this hen?

I think she's a partridge orpington, but I don't know for sure. She came with a bunch of lavender orpys and RIRs.

    What breed is this rooster?

I have looked and looked everywhere, and can't seem to figure out what he is. A blogger online had one like him, and no one could tell her what he was either. He was free from a friend as a chick. I'd like to know what kind of babies I can get out of him. :)

What is the strangest thing your chickens ate? Mine just ate crawfish Monica and aligator tail

My biggest roo eats lizards, dead birds, frogs, mice, and anything else he can get hold of. He's especially fond of satsumas. One of my other roos will do tricks for cookies. :)

Biting rooster... can I break him of it?

I have a formerly sweet roo... he's a teenager, I guess. Our chicks were born in early April, so I guess about 4 months old? He crows and struts like a big boy. :) These are my first chickens, and we have two hens and this roo. He has always been so docile... they have all been raised to hand...
