I haven't seen a vet yet as they aren't really available in my area, but if symptoms show in more birds I'll try to get that done. I'm also fairly certain it's not Egg Yolk Peritonitis as the hens were both quite old and not really laying much anymore. They also died within a few months of each...
Another thing I should mention is that my coop is generally rather clean (I do the deep litter method) and well ventilated. My chickens are also outside for most of the day and roam free in the yard.
A few months ago (mid July) I noticed that one of my 4-year old Black Australorp hens was loosing weight. Since it was pretty old, I just determined it was old age. However, a few weeks after, it's comb began to shrink but not loose color. I also noticed that poop was building up around it's...
Reminds me of something that happened at Target a few weeks ago. I was looking through the pet section when suddenly I see a bag with a picture of a chicken on it. I was like "Cool, they sell chicken feed here?" until I looked closer... It was DOG FOOD with CHICKEN in it.

I found this on Reddit a few days ago. All the comments said "awww so cute" and things like that. Does nobody notice that it appears to be SUFFOCATING THE CHICKS!? I really would hate to thing some jerk just put the cat in there to take a stupid picture and...
Ok, thanks. I don't have a swamp cooler (I want one but can't afford one, plus it is usually humid here so they don't work well). What should I do if they still seem stressed even when I have done all this?
Red tailed hawks ARE a threat to chickens. I have had multiple close calls with them (thankfully have never lost anyone to one), and I am close to South Minneapolis too. Cover your run with hardware cloth, or put lots of threads of fishing line across the top close together. Do NOT shoot it...
Temperatures are supposed to reach 110 F this week. My chickens seem to hate weather above 90 F, so I am worried that they might not survive. Their "coop" is inside a concrete building which usually stays cool but it gets quite hot in hotter weather sometimes. Will they be OK? If not what can I...
