Only works on a perfectly flat surface.
Pros: Easy to fill
Cons: Leaks out all of the water if the surface it sits on isn't perfectly falt.
We can't keep this in any of the chicken runs because the ground isn't flat. When they were using the wooden coop, the bedding on the floor wasn't flat enough and it would soak the whole coop.

We got this to keep water in the chicken runs easily. I have issues with my joints, so the goal was to have to fill less, and be able to bring smaller amounts of water over (the hose didn't reach)

This didn't work. The thing now sits on the concrete slab outside the back door because it is the only place flat enough for it. My Guinea fowl drink from it, but I can't use it how it's intend.

I ended up getting a couple smaller water containers that are easier to carry for each coop. We currently have 4 coops.

Pros: Lift the lid and fill it, just that easy!!!
Cons: Spray the water bowl area out of much each day to keep them clean and healthy.
I needed this, I could not being lifting lots of water every day due to neck issues. This is simple bring in the hose and fill it up and it's a done deal.

Pros: Easy to fill
Cons: Not surdy enough to hang and lid won;t close if you hang it.
The float inside is two pieces and water logs and then doesn't work and all the water drains out. You need to unscrew the plastic bolt in the bottom of the bucket and remove the float. With it being dry pop the two pieces apart. The make sure it is clean and glue them together. I used Goop before pressing them together and another bead after together on both seam lines. Let cure for 24 hours and put the waterer back together and it works good now.

Go to Harris Farms website, and contact them, and ask for the new re-designed float. Mine came with a black plastic float with a flat end and a round end. Harris Farms sent me a new red one which is flat on both ends, and this new float has been working perfectly. Have not needed to fiddle with the new float.

I will have to check it out. Thank You. If I had not been so stubborn and thought about it I probably could have used some type of sealant to fix the old one. Unfortunately, my frustration won over.

I have one too. Since freezing temps have subsided I started using it last week. I like that the soiled water in drink tray can't backflow to mix with the reserve water due to a valve. So much easier to manage water with this unit.

We like ours also. Then only thing they need to fix is the float. It will fill up with water and empty the waterer.

Almost all chicken water containers will leak if they aren't absolutely level. It's best to hang them with a piece of bailing twine from dead-center of the handle at the proper height for the size of the birds. Most will never leak if utilized this way.

@chickbird Bought at TSC. Don't remember what I paid.

@hellbender The metal one was perfectly level. We built a small platform (think mini table) and sunk the legs into the ground and leveled the top before setting the waterer on it. It still leaked. The plastic one is now on the same platform and does not leak at all. For whatever reason, the metal one wouldn't hold a vacuum. The plastic one uses a float so don't have to worry about it holding a vacuum like you do with the double walled waterers.

It works great if you make sure the bottom tray is screwed on tightly. I couldn't figure out why my bedding kept being wet and mushy but I had the waterer level.

I have 2 of these. Hanging from the barn rafters not in service. Wasted so much time and effort trying to make them work efficiently. Either they empty out over night or clog from the float mechanism below that has to be dismantled way too often to clean it or is will quit working.
Either way, not worth risking dehydration of my flock on products that need more time with maintenance than the birds do.
Spend a little extra cash for the metal "slide over" waterer. Set it and forget.. wipe it out and refill.
The photos of these products are the only good thing about them. Sorry guys!

I bought it, and spent the whole day trying to teach my girls how to get the cups to fill. I finally gave up because the biting flies were winning and my girls just weren't getting the concept. Next morning I could tell that the water had not gone down at all and was happy that I ordered the Rentacoop automatic fill cups (more for me than them,) and the cups arrived today and I went out and installed them. I had issue with 2 of the wing nuts that would not thread but that is a minor fix, albeit annoying. Still, my girls were happily drinking their fresh, clean water with ACV. Next, I will look into Oregano oil. Should I put it in their water or their feed? Thoughts, anyone?

Update to my last one. Now that I fixed the float some small particles and algae cogged the float and it drained out again. Took it apart and cleaned the hole in the bottom of the bucket from underneath where the float plunger acts as a valve and its working again.

Nice waterer, but I'll eventually switch to a homemade 15 gallon nipple waterer when I find the correct barrel for me. This work works but needs a lot of maintenance.

Still messing around with the Rent A Coop watering cups... I am buying the Oasis cups, which I should have bought in the first place. I have a collection if failures. I am not trying to avoid coop duties but the water gets dirty quick. If I have a success, I will certain shout for joy. OY!

idk but i just use 7 qt buckets for my ducks and the chickens are cool with that too . i see my chickens drinking out of puddles just like the ducks do whenevr it rains so why do they need their water to be so pristine?
