I bought 2 chicks from a feed store that were supposed to be a different breed. Now that I know they were Welsummers I am pretty excited. They are a little more high strung than my other birds but they aren't crazy. They are 8 weeks old right now but I'm excited to see their dark eggs.
Cons: may not fit well in a small backyard coop in an urban seeing
I like my Jersey hens. They are pretty friendly and do well free ranging on my farm.

Pros: easy going bird, good egg production
Cons: sex linked markings does not continue in future generations.
I have a half dozen pullets in my flock. They are nice birds. They are calm and good foragers.they should last pretty well in a few months. Cockerels could even produce a decent fryer. Because it is a hybrid, the sex link characteristic does not appear in further generations. That's kind of a negative if you wanted to breed your own birds.

Pros: calm, good foragers, pretty, good egg and meat production,
Cons: they are not popular enough
I bought my Delawares from 2 different hatcheries. The first group are 6 weeks old and the serving group is 3 weeks old. I cannot say enough good things about them. I have a very mixed flock, but have decided that I will focus mostly on breeding Dellies. About the time the pullets start to lay the cockerels well be ready as fryers. If someone were only able to have one breed I would only suggest this breed. The history of the Delawares is pretty interesting too.
