Brahma

This is one of my roos from a hatch this year. In this picture, this roo was only 4 months old. By now he has gained the more colorful feathers of roos and . . .wow . . .has he grown! As you can tell from this photo, handling them is no problem. I have come across many badly behaved roos of other breeds but never in the Brahma breed (as well as in the cochin breed as well). I can even mix different roos without a terrible fight, only some sassing and typical pecking order behaviors. And if you want to get a roo for your hen, they are also gentlemen to their flock of hens. My nieces and nethews, the youngest being 4, can even enter their chicken yard safely and get to hold them. Dont take my word for it,try them.

We started off with 3 Dark Brahmas (penciled) but at 2 weeks old they all became ill, as did our 3 Light Sussex, 3 Blue Laced Red Wyandotte & 3 Gold Laced Wyandotte. The survivors are 2 Sussex, 1 GLW (barely), 1 BLRW, & 1 Brahma. My sickest were the BLRW & Brahma. I held them for hours each day forced water w/meds, sang to them & promised if they made it they'd not be on a dinner plate. They would insist on crawling up to my collar bone, stretch their necks out & put their heads against my neck to sleep. They became Bebe Brahma & Bebe Blue. You should see them run to me when I say Bebe! The Brahma is so very intelligent. Gentle disposition.

i find the older 6 month old hen protects my mixed pullets of 6 weeks . not spooky or scared very sweet natured and great compost turners.Dual purpose here eggs and Feathers for my lures .

I had 6 light Brahmas, I only have 2 left. 4 were killed by my cochins and welsummers...which have shown no other signs of aggression to any of my other birds. Also, they are the worst foragers of all my breeds and prefer to stay in or next to the coop and be fed rather than search for bugs. They are sweet to people and enjoy being held but they just do not work for anyone (in my opinion) looking for a mixed flock free ranger.

Both of my Brahmas are so easily spooked. It's difficult to get near them, catch them, or feed them because they get scared so easily. They're also a bit aggressive with the other chickens. Other than that, they lay well and get along with one another and aren't aggressive to humans.

My sophie is so sweet! She loves to cuddle with me, and she lays great llight brown eggs. The only thing is.. I think she's embarressed by her feet feathers and plucks them...

I love my Buff Brahmas & would recommend them to any one.

I just started breeding buff Brahmas and just got some light chicks. These birds are by far my favorite breed. They remind me of small turkeys in a way. My rooster has never once even tried to bite me. I love these birds I definitely recommend this breed.

I am working on my Brahma flock, I have 4 lite, 2 buff, 5 buff laced, 2 silver laced, 3 dark and 2 gold laced. Also have eggs in the bater, LOL
My dark Babies are the sweetest, calm and they think I'm there Mother, there 2 weeks old this Friday. Have silver and gold laced in the incubator. So glad to see others love this breed like I do. I want to have a couple of each variety.

these are my first brahmas have 1light brahma pair 1 buff brahma pair and 1 male buff/dark mix and all are friendly,curious and calm

My Dark Brahmas from Ideal hatchery are the friendliest, most gentle hens I've ever had. A couple of them come up regularly for 'petting'. A truly special breed/line.

I have two hens and i love them. They are my favorite large fowl breed. They are my nicest chickens and out of all of my ladies and gentleman are the only ones i can pick up and will sit there and let you know all about whats been happening in the coop. =D Cant get enough.

I have a LF light brahma roo and a LF buff brahma hen (pictured below). Both are very sweet. The roo, Mickey, is a bit stand offish but my son often picks him up and carries him around with out any problem. He is pleasant with the girls. Non aggressive. My hen, Isabelle, is very timid. She lays a medium sized pinkish tinted egg 4 or 5 times a week.

This is a wonderful breed, so sweet and calm! They chatter, but it's very quiet. Mine are sweet little (big) lap chickens and very docile.

One will just let you put her on your lap and she settles and just lays there.
They're also very easy to catch if you need to pick them up.

The Brahmas I have live up to their description of calm and quiet birds and they are even from a hatchery.

In my experience, this is a wonderful breed all around.

Great medium brown egg layers, hearty winter birds, healthy, great moms... surrogate to my guinea keets!

This is a fantastic bird for your back yard coop. Great Egger, Doesnt mind the cold weather at all. Mine are the most docile of all the birds I have. They are in the middle of the pecking order even though they are larger then most of the other types I have. They are silly to watch since the feathers on their legs make them look like they have a funny gate when they run. They free range well and always come back to the coop at night. Quiet bird and a good choice for in town if you have close neighbors.

Just got our Dark Brahma pullets in the mail this morning. We ordered 15 (10 for friends) and got 16. So far they are nice and healthy acting, all are eating and drinking...They are very quiet compared to some of the chicks that we've had. so, so far we are very pleased with them

I own two of these I got from a trade for show birds. Very motherly hens and good looking roosters. Sweet birds all around.

Overall big beautiful chickens, and very well natured!!!!!!!
