Pros: So Beautiful and funny
Cons: prone to leg problems and other health issues if you keep them for many years (NOT for meat)
Everyone who visits me says the white ducks with the orange bills and feet are their faves - they are just so classic and pretty. Because of their weight they can have foot and leg problems so they require extra extra niacin supplements. also they may not live as long as other breeds because they are bred to be meat ducks (fast growth and heavy weight leads to heart failure and more)
Pros: Personable, loving and silly!
Cons: Can’t think of any except for projectile poops (which happens with any duck lol)
We rescued an abandoned duckling in a nearby lake, and her charming personality has made us have a whole new love for these feathered friends! She is cuddly and loves to follow us around, I highly recommend raising ducks if you’re looking for a loving companion. They need to be kept with other feathered companion!

Pros: 1. Lays an eggs almost daily.
2. Friendly.
3. Trainable.
4. Good brooder.
Cons: 1. Really big eaters.
I currently have 2 Pekins, both females. They are my best layers of the flock. They lay eggs almost daily; rarlely missing a day in egg production. Weather does not affect the consistency of egg production. Eggs are white and LARGE and taste great and are great for baking. My Pekins are trained to respond to my call. I can call them in from the water early if I need to. They are sticklers for routine, so they will come up out of the tank at the same time every day on their own. Pekins are BIG eaters. I jokingly call them my piggies. They are usually the first to get to the feed, and will shove others out of the way until they've had their first bite. Pekins are great foragers; I haven't seen a grasshopper on about 5 acres (I only have 5 ducks). They are gentle for the most part. If it's not time to eat, they tend to be skittish with people other than myself. They only let you get close enough to touch them when it's dinnertime. They will eat feed and pieces of fruit from the hand of my 2-year old. My Pekins are also the best brooders of my bunch. Out of my 3 breeds, the Pekins were dedicated to their nests until the job was done.

Looking two purchase two Female Pekin Ducks. Vermilion,oh
Buy them from Metzer farms, that is where I'm getting my two Pekins. They have a minimum of two birds bought at once, which i thought was great. they have information on each breed of duck and goose and goose they carry and I have heard that there is no better place to buy ducks than Metzer farms.

I'm getting two Pekins! I cannot wait, they are my first ducks. I have always wanted ducks. I think they are so cute. I put in a lot of time researching Pekins, asking questions, and have found them to be friendly, and a great choice if you want to love ducks. I am buying mine from Metzer Farms.

I have a huge question my Peking duck hatched three duckling 2 weeks ago but my drake basically will, peck at them if given the chance so I have everyone separated now in an outside pen...my question to anyone they can help! Will my boy duck badically always want to be this way with the new ducks? My drake is very sweet to everyone else

I love my 5 Pekins. Huge ducks, daily xl egg layers, adorable addition to any garden or yard. Easy to keep, hardy, and did I mention adorable? Mud lovers, worms gobblers, destroyers of fresh water and adventurous foragers. You will never run out of fresh feathers for crafting or be without entertainment while owning Pekin Ducks! Only cons: Loud quacky ladies, the boys can be bullies and get a little ...rapey...so really keep in mind the suggested Drake to Hen ratio please- take it from me I'm learning the hard way!

i have a pekin drake dumped at the college pond & i love him but he does "charge" at my son, the dog & the cats, gave him a stuffed animal & he goes 2 town on it,...how long does behavior last?

I did the same my only mistake so far was the poultry math. I got 4 thinking all were hens but ended up with 3 drakes. 2 is definitely the best # to start with

I decided to get blue Swedish instead. After some research about Pekin leg problems and all I felt these were a better choice. I'm getting them in the spring.

How can you tell a male from a female Peking duck
unfortunately it is difficult to tell from a young age (unless you are good at vent checking)
first signs of a female are usually anywhere between 3 and 7 weeks. the voice will go deep and stay that way. the males will develop a raspy sound around 7-10 weeks.

how do u get rid of mites, fleas or lice, he scratches all the time, ?
mites dont like a lot of water. if you let your duck bath frequently, the mites hate it and will usually go.
if bathing isnt an option, you can buy powder and fluff it all through their feathers. the powder is sulphur based. smells terrible, but it does work.

i had a pekin drake. his behaviour was similar. in spring and summer its worse, but then gets better in autumn and winter. i noticed that when he reached about 5 years old, he mellowed a little, but always had that slight tendency in spring and summer
