This is a perfect feeder is you you have around 10 chicks. I use this every time I get chicks.
True, chicks will poop in it but you can easily dump out the top layer of feed with the poop. They like roosting on top of it.
Cons: Dumps easy,
Holds very little food,
Top frequently pops off which makes a disaster,
Chicks grow out of it so fast its a waste of money
Chicks naturally run around and play, and the slightest bump sends this feeder falling. The lid pops right off and dumps feed everywhere. I found myself filling this three and four times daily, mostly due to how much was being dumped into the bedding.
Get a bigger, steadier one. Don't risk this falling on your little ones.
Cons: Runs out fast as the food containers are small. Probably would need a lot of them just to feed a few chickens.
They could poops in it sometimes
I got 3 of these and they work great for quail. I use the metal one and when it’s gets too poppy, I just submerge it in water and it comes right off. Little rubbing is needed and it suits them well!
Pros: Inexpensive, good size for a brooder, variety of colors, easy to clean.
Cons: Have to refill often, bottom of base can get loose and come off easily.
For a cheap brooder feeder, this thing works pretty well. Refilling it constantly can get annoying but its a good size for a smaller brooder. I have a tendency to try and shake out any shavings in it and doing so sometimes makes the base come apart.
Pros: Good feeder for chicks, the bottom does screw off for easy cleaning, make sure it is screwed back in place before you flip it over.
Cons: The only complaint I have is that when you fill it up and tip it over all the food goes into the tray and empties the jar almost half way. It would be cool if they had a lid at the top to poor feed through.
Pros: Easy to fill, clean & move to different areas.
I have 2 of these for my babies. Love them. W/11 hungry mouths, I fill them each once a day, but since they’re so light & easy to grab, it’s a pleasure.
I like that the base will come apart for good cleaning. Just had a sick baby & needed to disinfect feeder-design made it a piece of cake.
I've enjoyed using this small feeder for chicks. It fits good in smaller coops. Sometimes I need a small feeder to fit between chicks and waterers. This small feeder is perfect.
Cons: The bottom part comes apart way too easily, it gets top heavy, so chicks roost on it and tip it over.
I have about 4 of these, they are handy for raising chicks, but not to be used for chickens over 8 weeks. It empty's quickly, so I fill up the mason jar for the top, AND the bottom part at the same time, then slowly ease them together and then quickly slam them together so feed does not go everywhere, and it lasts a good bit longer, but still not as long as I wish. I got the red because the chicks are attracted to it and peck at it more than they might other colors. I have dropped feed many a time because the bottom part is forever falling apart.
It was only $3.75 and it will probably last for years, or even a lifetime. The plastic is thick and durable, so it is hard to break. A+ for durability! The top jar and the base screw apart and the top of the base can be pulled off as well to make the feeder easy to clean. The holes that the chicks eat through are also a good size and help keep the chicks from stepping in the feed and from scratching bedding into it as well. The only problem I currently have with the feeder is the sometimes the food doesn't fall into the base on it's own and the feeder needs to be tapped on a counter to provide feed. If you have the time to tap the feeder on a counter every once and a while I would definatly recommend this feeder to you!
Pros: Can be easy to clean, hives chicks food/water all day, durable
Cons: Messy with older chicks
I have had mine for two years and still use them (I am right now for chicks ). They just tend to get dirty easily with older birds and run out quicker. Otherwise it's a great product!
