Pros: Easy to teach chickens to use,
Doesn't leak if left alone,
Works in winter when used with a tank heater
Cons: Leaks water if bumped, easy for chickens to get messy with it
I love these, they were easy to install and keeps the water clean, as my chickens love to dirty their water, almost like ducks.
The only problem I faced was if I set it down to fill the waterer, it would click the nipples and make a big mess until you picked it back up.
Pros: Easy to use
Great for heated automatic homemade watering system
Cons: Can be tough to get leak-free
I used these for my automatic watering system. Drilling the correct size hole and threading as straight as possible still weren't enough to prevent a leak in one of 3 nipples. I removed all and applied Teflon tape to the threads and a dab of food grade silicone to the surface of the PVC before tightening back down. They have been leak free for 4 months now.
Pros: Cleaner water my dogs can't drink dry daily and doesn't get dumped by flock antics.
Cons: Not for indoor use.
Took my birds long enough to get he hang, but once they do it's kind of amusing to watch them drink. Plenty of drips fall all around the bird to the ground when they are drinking, no big deal outdoors. Pretty leak free when not in use IF installed correctly. I have to use a scrubby brush to get algae off the internal gaskets. Worked well enough I bought more to add more waterers!
Pros: Not having to change water out every day or every other day is a huge plus!
Using a bucket holds more water without getting dirty
Our ladies love these after taking one or two of them to it and tapping their youth to it a few times they took right to it.
We made ours water holder using a 5 gallon bucket with a lid and bought the nipples. It is cheaper that way then buying ones already made in fees stores.
