To me, these are amazing birds. They aren't flashy birds like some, but they remind me of my Labrador Retrievers - pretty easy keepers and good all-around animals. We keep bantams but have friends with Large fowl. The bantams are hawk-bait but lay decent-sized eggs. We love the rose combs in the winter - much less chance of frostbite. Ours stay in outdoor unheated coops year-round and need protection from drafts but do ok year-round in NJ weather, with reasonable care. They are dual-purpose birds so would be good for eating, but we prefer to just eat their eggs. They need normal care from mites and other chicken diseases. The image below is from Arthur O. Schilling. His painting is as close to perfect for both bantams and large fowl, IMO, in any color. An image to strive for.
