Today I bought a Light Brahma hen at a poultry swap and she seemed completely fine and healthy. I brought her home and she was attacked by one of the hens. Since then, she has trouble breathing and her throat gurgles and sounds really scratchy. She has also been coughing. When she is calm, her...
Yesterday I got a bantam chicken that is younger than the rest of my chickens. She is only 3 months old and I am wondering if it is okay for her to eat laying pellets or should I buy food that is for younger chickens?
I just got a bantam chicken yesterday that is younger than all the rest of the chickens. She is about three months old but I only have the laying pellets. I am just wondering if it is okay for her to eat them or will I have to get other food for her?
I’m not really sure if she is suffering though, because there is something about her that looks perky like our other chickens that weren’t attacked and she isn’t droopy. She holds her head up and makes little happy noises when we talk to her. I will have to wait and see. It looks hopeful that...
I forgot to mention, most of the damage is to her face and one eye is pretty much damaged the other one I think she can possibly see through. The problem is that she has a bad aim at pecking at things and has no appetite. The only thing she will eat by herself is water. I can’t get her to have...
Last night one of our wyandotte pullets was attacked by a raccoon. She had blood all over her head and face. Her eyes seem swollen shut and half of her face is marked with scratches. I'm not sure how to clean the dried blood from her eyes without hurting her. It is caked on her face. How can I...
my easter-egger hen, Cornflower hasn’t been acting herself lately. For one thing, she is usually the first to come for a treat but when I brought it out, she didn’t come and the other chickens ate it. I have noticed she is slow lately and easier to catch than usual. She hasn’t been laying any...
I have a 3-month old Ameraucana pullet and I've just noticed recently that she's not very active. She used to bully some of the other chicks and ran around the place a lot but now she just sits quietly by herself with her eyes closed. Today I was looking around for her and found her sitting down...
I bought a pullet(chick) at a poultry swap. When i let her out of the cage, a few of the other chickens pecked her. She stood up to them and chased them off. I was glad that she was able to defend herself, but I didn’t know she would start attacking the chicks that were smaller than her. Today...
some of my chicks have been fighting. Does that mean they are cockerels? my brown ameraucana Muffin fights, but only when basil (the black and white one) chalenges her. is muffin a rooster?
The first is supposed to be an ameraucana, second is a gold laced wyandotte. But the person we got them from has failed to give good service before so even though I am sure they are pullets but then again, I dont know.
