YEAH! My last girl layed her first egg today .. So now ALL 11 are laying .. Again my facebook friends do not care My Delaware was my last hold out .. she was hatched in March and IS my oldest so OF COURSE she is the last . Makes complete sense in Chicken land Silly Chickens .
I had a BO named Buffy too ! She died about a month ago . I had to re-integrate one of my RSL's after a illness .. there was one chicken that picked at her the most . So I too the picker out for a week and then put her back with the flock . .. she was then at the bottom of the pecking order ...

Thank you . That is what I thought .. But thought I would clarify . So what is the "bull eye" On the yolk .. if I have no roosters to make fertile eggs ?

Generally in cooking when making a reduction you reduce your heat to medium , OR the lowest heat you can use without breaking the simmer . In all reductions you reduce the overall volume by 1/3 to 1/2 depending on the consentration deisred .FOr example if you start out with a full...

I am confused about the picture in this link .. I have had a few eggs with the white "bulls eye" that this picture illustrates , but I am not sure if the "bulls eye " is the worm or the long white thing to...
First off let me say I do not have any EE's . My flock consists of RIR's , Rsl, and Bsl 's , a Delaware and 2 Red leg "hybrid" mutts . Yesterday I went to the coop and found a pretty powder pink egg ! It was very thin shelled and was cracked , so I cracked it into the dog dish and then noticed...
Some of my March girls are just now starting , my Delaware STILL has not laid .. but she is the smallest [ by far the loudest , but still the smallest .. she just started to squat ] . I have read that ,weight of the bird , and overall health have more to do with onset of lay than age . E.I > RIR...
I have a red sex link pullet that was very sick in July . I had to nurse her back .. since then when I go in the coop in the morning to gather eggs , scrape the poo and throw scratch .. she will roost on my shoulder . She lost an eye when she was sick , so we call her the one eyed pirate chicken...
I have a RIR born April 15th she has been laying since late september . That being said she was my only early layer ... she layed before 3 of my sexlinks that were hatched almost a month earlier . They have to get to about 6 lbs before their body tells them to start laying .
Try a roll away nest box .. That is in the works at my house .. untill then I would at least seperate the egg eater from the flock .Just so she can not eat them .

I love Southern Oregon ! I would live there in a minute if I could . My husband went to high school in Jackson County . He still has family there ... and in Klamath falls . So pretty .
I have had an increase in egg production since adding my lights .I was getting 6 eggs from 11 chickens ... now I am averaging 9 eggs a day . I still had a few spring chicks that had not started laying yet .. Mine go on at 4:30am am and off at 8:00 am .. they are on the roost by 4:30 pm my house...
My Delaware was caught yellow faced today . YOLK all over her face . Time to build the roll away nests . The funny thing is she has had kinda a yellow tint to feathers the last few weeks . I thought maybe she was an internal layer , IF she is laying she has just started this week . She was...
heck out this link . It has a lot of gret info about the other symptoms of Cocci . Since there are different types , it stands to reason there would be different symptoms for each .

i just lost my buff last week . She was puffed up and had BAD runny poo , acted cold , her walk was uncoordinated . I called Dr. Peter Brown he said it sounded like a classic case of Cocci . By the time I noticed she was acting sick it was too late for her . I put the whole flock on Corid , just...

Two quick things. First, getting birds straight from the hatchery is no guarantee you won't get sick birds. Many diseases can and are transmitted through the egg. It was reported last year that MM had a AE outbreak and there were a LOT of chicks arriving dead and dying afterwards...

I'm afraid im not sure, but its a possibility.
I had two girls get the bubbly eyes in july ... one I caught a few times and got eye ointment in the eye ... but eventually she got too fast and I gave up . She got over it , she was also on oxytetracycline .. the other one let me catch...
