TDM, how many people does it take to move and how long? That similar to what I am wanting to do. Except we have more woods on the property then anything, so they will be in the woods mostly.
Ok, so I think I am going to order 164' of electric poultry netting. I want a large area that is movable (even if it's not 'easy' that's ok but I can't think of another way to be able to move a large area). I want my layers in it. Obviously I realize some might try to fly out, and I'll either...
It's been a week now and no more losses. I think that it's finally over. I lost 41 of the 48 chicks I ordered. The hatchery told me to tell them my final loss and they would be happy to work something out.
The vet's final diagnosis was simply a starve out. Can't say exactly why but at some...
If I can catch the stray I take it to the pound. If I can't I shoot it. I don't miss, I only take shots I know will take the animal down. I will see no animal suffer. Obviously if the dog goes by and harms nothing I let it be. I have no tolerance for other people's stupidity and neglect. I love...
Don't use a light at all. When I catch chickens I shine them, locate them and then I go to them and grab them. If needed I will shine again to locate them and make sure I will get a good grab. If catching one of my coop girls it's easier, I just grab them around the body making sure I have the...

Most of my broody's tear me up. Rofl. Even my girls that are so nice and friendly turn into monsters. But I wont complain, I saw one of my turken's tear a hawk to pieces.
Does sound something like I've heard a mom make to her little ones.
Is there something we should know about...

I have to agree. You are guessing in the dark on what to do without the full, complete diagnosis. You already knew they had a respiratory illness, and now you are back where you started from with NO useful information. If you knew what you had, it would help to decide what to do with...
Since you said his crow is weak I would worry about maybe a URI or something else wrong... if you had storms over night it is possible he got chilly and might have picked up something.
I don't really know. But my roo's crow all day, if the moon is out they crow all night. Just a rooster thing...

From OH to NC. The weather was nice here, but not sure about along the way. The guy from the hatchery just said it could have occurred during shipment but said nothing else about it. I need to call the feed store and ask if others have had problems, they had about 100 more on top of...
My girl that is in quarantine for an eye injury has been singing. Very soft, cooing noises. I have never had a hen make this noise (that I am aware of). Almost like she's humming a lullaby or something, it is a very soft, gentle noise. A mix between a pigeon's coo and a song.
She is not in any...
This is making me sick. I can't stop them from dying.
On the 18th I received 48 Ameraucana chicks from a hatchery, 22 Light Brahmas from someone local along with 6 games and 11 mixs.
I have now lost 22 of the Ameraucana's. I can't get weight on them, although they seem to eat/drink. I lost 2...
Thanks guys. She seems 'fine' other than her eye. She did seem to have a bit of an infection in it, is there something safe I can wipe it out with that wont hurt her eye other than water? She keeps her eye closed for the most part, so her actual eyeball should be ok and not dry out. I checked...
On the top corner of my girls eye it's torn. Her eye was swollen and gunky and I checked it out, looks like she either got the corner of the lid caught on something or possibly tore by a roo or another hen... anyway, I cleaned it out and flushed it - her eyeball is ok. I put vetropolycin on it...
I don't think I've had a roo live over 5 years. I had a turken that lived for 12, we eventually had to put her down because she was having a hard time getting around and was loosing a lot of weight. I have had other hens live 10 years. I don't know if it's because I don't get as attached to the...
