I've only had one brahma, but she was a sweetheart! One night she just didn't come back to the coop with the others, so I'm assuming she got taken by a fox or raccoon while they were free ranging in the woods.
Another question...Are Brahmas one if the breeds where the males feather out much...
There are 2 of the clean-legged ones with the speckled faces. One is a very pale gold and the other is almost white and also has a stripe down its back. I was wondering if they were OEGB, but I couldn't find any pics online that matched them. If they are, any idea what colors they could be? The...
Thank you! Someone else suggested mottled black but I can't figure out how my feed store would have gotten ahold of them, since they only order from the 2 hatcheries I mentioned. Regardless, they're adorable and super friendly...they already fly up out of the brooder to snuggle on my shoulder as...
Bought 5 turkey poults at my local farm store last week. 2 BBW and 3 that were supposed to be Narragansetts. My woefully ignorant self has finally come to the conclusion that they are not Narragansetts. Totally wrong color. Then I thought they might be Black Spanish, but they're feathering in...
So I picked up these little cuties at the farm store yesterday from the 'assorted bantams' bin. I might have figured out a couple but was hoping to get some opinions on the others. Pretty please? :-)
Light brahma?
This looks just like my LF buff brahma did as a chick.
No clue. Is more gold...
Went to the store...I was gone less than an hour and this is what I came home to!
There's one more that's pipped and a lot of rocking from some of the others. This is so awesome! :-D
Woke up this morning to our first pip...but it's a full day early! How much do I need to worry? This is my first ever hatch so I'm a nervous wreck anyway. Lol. These are eggs from my own birds...set 37,had one with a crack that started to stink on day 10. On day 14 tossed out the clears and 3...
I hope so! I'm especially excited to see what the barred rocks chicks turn out like. If they're fathered by either the SPR or the Barnie, they should be black sex links. The EE roo has some barring in his tail, tho, so if he's the papa, no clue what they'll look like.
Count me in! I've got an incubator full of mutts slated to hatch on Monday. I cannot WAIT to see what they look like! I've got 3 roos (barnevelder, silver penciled rock and EE) over a bunch of different hens (white and barred rocks, EE's,RIR,Jersey giant and my tiny feather-legged bantam EE)...
I posted in the breed/gender forum about my young cockerel. The general consensus seems to be that he is in fact purebred SPR and not a Barnie/SPR mix like I thought. Is there anyone here who has the knowledge and experience to tell me if he's good quality and if not, what his faults are? I'm...
Thank you! Maybe I'll get some better pics of him and post over in one of the breed-specific threads to see if the experts think he's nice enough to start a small breeding program with (I'm very new to all this so haven't a clue how he holds up against the breed standard). Does anyone have any...
Was curious about one of my cockerels. When I got him, I was told he was a Barnevelder/Silver Penciled Rock cross. The older he gets, the more I think he looks like he's just SPR. Am I wrong? I know the woman I got him from was working on breeding silver laced barnevelders using SPR's so I just...
Yes, the laced bird in the front. Sorry. I don't have any other pics but I can definitely get a close up in the morning and post it. I guess earlier when I'd posted the gender question, s/he had a pretty bright comb for only being 8 or 9 weeks old at the time, and did have just a small amount...
Ok, thoroughly confused here...while outside doing yard work I heard one of my hens start singing what I assume is a 'practice' egg song. I was super excited, bcz none of them are laying yet. So I'm searching for the culprit and am expecting to see that is my 20 week old RIR. Nope. Instead it...
