I've got 4 50x50 foot fields that I want to put a coop in the middle of and alternate which field they run in. so it's 2500 sq ft at any given time of run space with rotation as needed. How many chickens could an operation like this sustain comfortably? How big should I then build my coop?
I have a buff brahma rooster to give away in the loudoun county va area. He is really used to being picked up by kids and is a beautiful bird. I have no idea if he is good as a show bird or not since I am not into that but if anyone is interested I can email pictures. We need to get rid of him...
I've seen them during the day, but I've only ever heard of them attacking at night. I would put out "have a heart" traps at night with cat food and then not have a heart when I caught him. Nothing ever made me more murderous feeling towards an animal than seeing 9 ducks and 12 chickens with...
Im looking to fill my in incubator with duck eggs. Im leaning toward runners and cayugas but could be swayed by other breeds. Can anyone help me? I have an automatic turner in my 1588 that holds 42 chicken eggs. can I get the same # of duck eggs in there?
I have three nieces coming to visit for a week and am going to set an incubator to hatch while they are here. I have done chickens quite a few times now and am doing very well but I've got it in my head to do ducks because they are so cute. Are they harder to hatch? prone to more scary gross...
I am going out of town tomorrow finding myself with lockdown on the day we are gone. Can I lockdown a day early or late? Anyone have experience with this?
Quote:
I had a similar experience with my 1588 until I switched to the dry incubation method. I used to fill all the tray troughs but now I only fill the middle one for day 1 - 18. Humidity stays 38 to 45. Then I fill all of them at lockdown and humidity goes up to 70 - 75. Eggs hatched went...
So if chickens don't need extra calcium they instinctively know not to eat the oyster shell?
How much calcium does this flock raiser have in it? How is it different from starter ration?
Wait. Now Chookschick has me worried. I just threw my 8 week old Delawares into a pen with mature layers. Will they be harmed at this age by feed with %4 calcium?
I ran out of crumbled starter ration last night and of course today is Sunday and the feed store is closed. Can I feed my 5 and 7 week old chicks pelletized laying ration for a day? How about scratch? - Thanks
Im just curious, what is the aggressive factor with delaware roosters? I have a friend who is gun shy about roosters after a bad experience and I want to turn her into a rooster lover. I have delaware, ameraucana and welsummer cockerals now and would like to give her one to try but want to give...
Im confused. My incubator says it is a genisis hovabator 1588. So a genisis is a hovabator. Right? Love mine. Just got 32 peeps of 42 eggs.
I looked at those Brinseas. $200 for a bator that holds 20 eggs? Way expensive. I could almost get 2 1588's for that price and use one as a hatcher.
What...
Ok, She is running around her tub full speed BACKWARDS with her head down between her legs. Then she lands on her back and can't get up. Still wry neck?
Ive got VI - TAL supplement in her water at 1/4 teaspoon to a gallon.
Thanks guys! Sounds like it isn't contagious anyway which is always my biggest fear. I put a high dose vitamin/electrolyte supplement in it's water. It's eating and drinking now. Definitely not listless. It's such strange behavior though, Like it has OCD about preening it's belly.
I've done some searching but I can't figure this one out. Last night we were moving a flock of about 70 4 week old delaware chicks. One was moving erratically with it's head permanently in a position against it's chest Like it was completely obsessed with preening it's underside. We Isolated...
No other symptoms except some diarrhea. Actually he his looking much better today! He was eating last night and his face has returned to normal red. I am wondering how long I need to keep him separated now. Any advise?
