Hello. I have a 2 year old, female Pekin. She started limping on Monday and has gotten worse since. She can still walk some, but she has to take lots of breaks and lays down. She walks and stands like a penguin (she used not to walk and stand like that) Her legs looks further apart than they...
Johnny lives with her 2 adopted call duck brothers, she seems to have paired with one, 4 old khaki cambles, 4 brahma hens and 2 brahma cockells
I feed them in different places so the ducks don't get picked on by the cockells and there is are lots of water places so they don't have to fight over...
You give calcium Gluconate by mouth using a syringe. 1ml syringe

She is about a year old now… she has access to oyster shells and eats them frequently. So I didn’t think she was deficient in it. I will put her in a warm bath this morning. And try to get the calcium gluconate
@SpaceRockOG since this is a duck if you can get some calcium Gluconate [vet prescribed for anegg-boundduck][TSC] this seems to work to get the egg out. Makes the muscles contract tohelp push. 1ml over a tasty treat if you can get her to eat or by mouth...
Apologies for this being long but I feel that the more I share right away the better and hopefully someone will have went through something similar. A week ago my goose was eggbound I brought her inside to observe and proceeded to Google what to do. Now the icky details that I observed are as...
Yes one of my duck has been laying soft egg shells or the yolk comes out then shortly after the soft shell comes out. My other pekin duck stoped laying eggs 4 days ago and I massaged her and only got one egg out so I’ve been trying anything that I can find on this website. I’m trying this now...
The thing is, the tail pointing downward, to me, sounds like she could be eggbound. Whether she is or not, I don't know, but giving her calcium is perfectly safe either way and so it would be wise to treat and rule out.
What feed is she on, and how much protein is in it?
You can feel her abdomen. I would NOT go poking up her vent I did that once with a khaki campbell and she died the next day .
You can give her the Calcium Gluconate anyway it will not hurt her to have it even if she does not need it. It's a liquid they sell it at tractor supply and you give 1ml...
HELP!!!! My duck is eggbound as we speak. I've got her in warm water soaking. She has passed 1 oblong shaped egg but is having a lot more trouble passing the others. I say others because I can feel there are 2 more at least. I'm reading to give her tums which I have but how much do I give?? &...
I always use the look but don't touch approach and keep an eye on mine. Since you are where it is warmer than me they would be probably just fine outside. I would make sure you watch them closely though so that they don't get picked on. Mine are usually 6 weeks old before I put them all...
My silver appleyards have just started laying and one of them, Vidia, is odd.
The day before she laid her first egg we noticed her butt was “heavy” (that’s what we call it - you can see their butt looks a little heavier, and since these guys have a bulldog stance it’s very noticeable). During...
Okay, I got the Calcium today and gave her some, let her soak in the tub. No egg so far but I'll give her more this evening.
I ordered the Vitamin B, it will be here Tuesday. I'll continue the vitamins and yeast until then.
If it is a niacin problem and I start her on the liquid b... how...
I've never used tums so not sure how many should be given but if she is eating you might could hide it in some chopped tomatoes or some other tasty treat.
Best thing to have on hand is liquid Calcium Gluconate one of our members had her duckto the vet because she was egg-boundand this is what...
Calcium gluconate gives them calcium of course but also helps the egg pass on through it works on the muscles tohelp the duck lay the egg.

Thank you so much for sharing! It gives me hope. The only time I was in therapy was when I was a kid, 16. I never opened up about how I actually felt, and she never pushed me too. Which felt good but, we never actually had the talks we needed to have. So it was really a wasted opportunity to get...
My birds do pretty good eating the cooked shells with me just crushing them in my hand other probably do it differently but this is how I give them. But for one having laying problems the liquid Calcium Gluconate is the best. It actually helps move the egg down so it can be laid. A member was...
