Thank you so much!! This helps a lot! I’ll try and buy the calcium gluconate but for the Tums would I just dissolve 1 in some water or how would I use that?
Are you providing any calcium supplement? The behavior you describe sounds like a duck being eggbound, which can also sometimes effect their ability to walk as well.
I would give it 1ml of calcium gluconate, which you can get at TSC. Soaking in a luke warm bath for at least 30 minutes...
The rooster booster won't help with eggbound.
The Theraycin wound spray is quite a bit less expensive than the Veterycin not sure if one is better than the other.
Once you get the cal glu do you know howto give it orally...
Hi everybody.
Miss Dewey is a 1.5 year old female Muscovy duck, 7 pounds, imprinted/captive/non-releasable. And she needs the village's help.
Earlier today Dewey began opening her mouth and then later full on panting. She was also squinching her eyes closed as if she was in pain or...

is this what I want from TSC? And this will help her if she has eggbounding?
Her foot actually looks a little better...
My Pekin has similar problems. She won't eat oyster shells. I offer layer feed on the side. I would only offer it in the morning and watch her eat it when I had young ducks too. She eventually learned it was her special food and come running for it. A lot of my laying females really enjoy having...
thank you so much. I hope it is just a working itself out thing.. i didn't nt give any layer feed or oyster shell to her until i saw her lay anegg bc i was worried about it hurting her.. maybe i should have started before she laid her eggs!
I mean they get kale, peas , and shrimp treats every...
I am providing oyster shells which I thought was for calcium, is it not? I’m honestly scared & not confident in my skills to give the meds oral, & don’t want to chance anything. If I was confident at all giving it oral, I’d try but now I wldnt mind at all to give him a shot, if I can do that at...
Hi, I have 2 Pekin ducks that are about 3 years old. They have been laying soft shell eggs for months now despite, supplements, calcium, etc. The past 2-3 days, one of the ducks has not been herself. She is quiet, laying a lot, not eating unless I hand feed her, and does not want to free...
Do you notice her uncomfortable? her vent pulsing? I have only had one Muscovy who had egg laying problems. I noticed she was just laying around not moving much so I brought her inside and gave her many long warm soaks in the tub, I didn't know about Calcium gluconate this was many years ago...
Oh I love the goat bags, how fun! That pile of bags gives me anxiety though hahaha--I'm not like @FBMcrazy8 and think that looks fun haha. :D
YAY! I love when that happens hahaha.
Haha, baking with your helpers no doubt!! :D No babies hatched yet (@TropicalBabies), although they appear to be...
My dearest Nettie
I cannot tell you the trouble you have saved me . Your post is absolutely the best post on ducks I have read . Very thorough you are and I really appreciate your work and time for sharing with all of us . I am a new duck x2 and Goose mama. I literally know almost...
Ok, thank you so much Miss Lydia. Yesterday, when we set her down on the grass she started moving her neck and eating, and had apetite. She also chirped and would react to stimului. Her eyes seem swollen however, its gotten a bit better. Really hoping its botulism because if it is, then she...
Hi guys...
My one year old duck, Betty was eggs boundand I didn’t recognize the symptoms. She was limping for a few weeks and I thought it was getting better but then yesterday she started falling on her breast. I took her to the vet and they X-rayed her and found she was bound. They cleared...
This morning we found one of our favorite hens, a buff polish, dead with no apparent cause. She had been acting fine in the days before, although last night she seemed a little tired. she was fluffed up in the nesting box, so I just assumed she was laying anegg. usually all my chickens act lazy...
