Ducks eating rat poop??

Normally she is energetic and very talkative but today she will hardly talk, she is eating and drinking but when I let my girls out to play and forage she just kind of stood there and walked a little and foraged a little but it was all as if she just had no energy. I noticed her tail was down as well and her breathing was not normal. This is all out of no where too. She is on purina duck feed along with oyster shells available whenever she needs.

rats have always been an issue and trying to eliminate rats hasn’t changed in the way we do it, and rat poop is often found in the coops which is why I deep clean everyday and they have never tried eating rat poop before but I can’t really think of any other reason why she’d be acting like this?
Is an avian vet an option for you? She does sound pretty unwell. Lethargy can be a symptom of so many illnesses.

Unfortunately no, I’ve called and everything is just too expensive for me at this moment and I feel awful about it.

I just don’t know what could make her this sick out of no where. Just last night she was her normal self and even this morning. It was just this afternoon, i swear within an hour that she just flipped a switch.

Can you get some Calcium Gluconate it's a liquid and we give it to our ducks when egg bound, I know you don't know if this is the problem but the Calcium gluconate won't hurt her and if she is egg bound can help her pass the egg, warm soaks in the tub can help too but the calcium Gluconate is the best stuff along with the soaks.
@DuckyDonna can vouch for it too. TSC carries it.

Thank you!! I will make sure to pick some up!! How much do I give her or what’s the dosage?

Also I just looked online at my tractor supply to order it and pick it up, it is the “calf milk replacer” with the 23%? That’s all that popped up.

That's it! you want to give her 1 ml over something she likes to eat. Just enough treat that she gets full dose. You can also give it by mouth. If you decide to do it that way let us know so we can give you instructions on how to give liquids

Thank you! I’ll try it over some peas! And if she won’t take it, then I’ll need those instructions on how to give liquids.

I understand, vets are crazy expensive. You can only do your best. Often with birds illnesses pop up really quickly. I monitor my own ducks very closely, but still sometimes one is fine in the morning and then in the evening we are going to the emergency vet.

I'm with @Miss Lydia about the calcium gluconate. That is what my vet prescribed when my duck was eggbound.

This may not be her problem but since this is a way to at least rule out egg bound.

I'm going to give you this link also

Maybe read up on the type of poison your dad uses to see what to use if ingested.
Thank you so much!!!
