She is definitely a cute one!
Yeah, I love Anne, she's such a character. I won't take her to the vet, but I'll do everything I can for her, it doesn't look extremely painful atm so I'm hopeful. Out of all my buff she's the goofiest. She is definitely a cute one!
This is the duck with the injury? Such an adorable duck
Yep, Anne has gotten herself into a "scrape"This is the duck with the injury?
No, it's a shallow cut about a half inch long.Does it look like a puncture?
It doesn't seem too deep, but it's disgusting which maybe means it's deeper than it looks. Are you able to tell how deep it is?
No, it looks too clean and uniform. You don't think it's a bite do you?
Thx, I love them tooSide note - I LOVE your floorsSo pretty!
Harlequin makes perfect sense. lolI'm giggling a little because y'all are tripping on the spelling of "Welsh", but "Harlequin" is no big deal.![]()
This isn't new to all, but I thought some might find it oddly interesting. A few days ago before lock up, my Cayuga drake, Stormy, was trying to eat what I thought was an acorn.

He moved it all around in his bill trying to situate it just right for swallowing and finally gave up and spit it out. I thought it looked like an odd acorn so I picked it up and discovered it wasn't an acorn after all! Check out this teeny tiny turtle hatchling! It's about the size of a dime. This poor little one was probably traumatized! Since then, thanks to one of my favorite people, I've learned that it's incredibly early for this hatchling, I've been keeping it in a safe spot, away from curious bills. It was already swimming around within minutes of being spat out so I don't think it has any injuries. It was just so odd

That's how you get salmonella.Although tiny, my daughter learned that Tiika has quite the biteI heard, "Mom, are you sure she's not a snapping turtle or is she just mean?". Poor little turtle is trying to protect herself. She's certainly off to a rough start and just doesn't want to end up in another mouth. Can we blame her? Nah........
Their setups are insane. How expensive are chameleons to buy?
I think they might be breeder quality. My mom wants to get some call ducks. She sent me a photo of these. I'm assuming they're pet quality?

That's all chameleons. lol Did I ever mention the people that came into the pet store asking for a cam-a-lon? I thought it was some stupid Macaw hybrid like a Camelot. Turns out it was a chameleon which I figured out when they pointed to one on a box for a habitat.Hateful wench.
My momma hen has 3 hatched so far. She is mad at me for blocking her inside the log dog house, but we got snow last night, so I didn’t want them getting out and not able to get back in.

I thought I would check back in to see if any of you would like to take my hand and allow me to help you into the light of respectable poultry and out of the dark dirty world of dux?
Come on. Take my hand, you know you want too.

If they were at my house, never. They don't develop.Hi, I set some call duck eggs two days ago. Anyone know when to start candeling?
She's 10 and I don't want her to be ridiculously fearful like her mom, so I encourage her to handle creatures that aren't dangerous if she's interested. She is very good about thorough hand washing as soon as she is finished handling anything. This is her the night before Tiika nipped her. I believe this is a worm snake. Of course I figured out what it was before I allowed her to hold it and she knows better than just picking something up.That's how you get salmonella
My Pekin has similar problems. She won't eat oyster shells. I offer layer feed on the side. I would only offer it in the morning and watch her eat it when I had young ducks too. She eventually learned it was her special food and come running for it. A lot of my laying females really enjoy having the layer feed on the side as well. I also give her calcium on top of that. I switched to calcium citrate. With those two things she still have some softer shells, but I don't get soft shells.Have any of you dealt with chronic soft eggs from your ducks? Honey Boo Boo, my Pekin hen, has been laying soft shelled eggs for a while now. I've been giving her Calcium Citrate + Vit D3 tablets and I was optimistic but honestly, it's just been wishful thinking that it's helping. I have spent a lot of time reading through post on BYC's about this and I believe I'm going to try her on Calcium Gluconate to see if that helps. Isaac mentioned somewhere that he found some ducks do better on one or the other, but I'd just have to see how she does. I haven't fed her layer feed because of the drakes, but I am getting to the point of seriously considering it. She eats Souther States Floating Waterfowl Feed and sometimes Purina Duck Pellets if I can't get the Waterfowl feed. She was raised on Purina Flock Raiser so she's always been fed a fairly decent feed. She LOVES minnows and gets some most nights. She has also discovered that she like dried black soldier fly larvae which she gets once or twice a week, but the soft eggs came before this started. The calcium content is what led me to try them and they really like them. She went through a long battle with what I now suspect was septic arthritis and then bumblefoot, so she took a lot of antibiotics. That was in 2019 and November 2019 was the last round of antibiotics for her. I wonder if something happened with her shell gland during that time but that's a long gap in time where she didn't have issues. So I just don't know. I also read that too high calcium levels can cause soft shelled eggs, but even if I stop the calcium citrate tablets, the eggs continue. I'm starting to look into egg drop syndrome (EDS '76). I do not suspect h5n1 although soft eggs can be a sign, this was going on before that was here. Tom, my Buff Duck hen, lays nice perfectly shelled eggs, as well as my other ducks that aren't in the same area. I have spoken with CoriM, just in case anyone thinks about her bout with a duck with similar issues. As usual, my post went on far too long, so my apologies. Thank you for your time
Any ideas?
Here.. I already deleted the pics. How long their body is, the depth of chest, shape of head.
@shawluvsbirds can you post those diagrams from your Call book?
