I haven't been able to get pics yet, I hope to do that when I get home today or at the latest this weekend. To answer your question, I wasn't about to get under her and move her or the eggs or the chicks when they hatched. She is an evil bird and I think she would peck my eyes out if she...
Just an update here. We had another one hatch yesterday, but we had let them stay with the mother the first night and unfortunatly the black chick has come up missing, so at this point we have them in a brooder. This was so different this time. Actually watching nature unfold instead of just...
well I didn't have my camera but the first little chick made it just fine...so far. We have no idea what it is, who it came from, or who its daddy is, as we have mixed bantams and standard size. But it is a a light silver color. I went to check on them last night and there was a second chick...
since he did remove the shell, what is the likely hood that the chick will survive. I leave work in about 30 minutes and should be home 10 after 5. This is driving me nuts.
aww I know, I'm really worried because he did remove a large part of the shell based on the vets orders ...like he knows anything. So I'm nervous that... well you know. But I will hope for the best.
Hey Everyone. Its been awhile. Well on March 23rd I let one of my bantam hens set on 3 eggs, I put the date on them and just let her and them be. I hadn't really been keeping track of how long ago that was and to be honest I didn't really think it would work, so I hadn't really made a plan...
If I knew what I know now, I would have filled my chicken house with only red stars. they are the most personable and are great layers, every day same time. They even lift up for me when its time to collect the eggs.
I'm not really fan of them I understand the mixed feelings. My school did the certificate booklet when I was a senior and it helped pay for a function the school had the night we graduated, called Project Graduation. It was a way for us all to have fun but to stay safe as well. It was an over...
I've had that happen, we try to keep them away from the trap but its hard when you have barn cats. After yours have been caught a few times they tend to catch on and stay away. I know thats not the ideal plan, but eventually you will catch that mamma. Kudos for getting her fixed.
Any luck yet? My chickens have been on strike for the last month or so. This morning one of them finally laid an egg she was praised (i know i know) and loved on for her good work. hopefully the rest will follow suit. I hope they start laying soon, I know how frusterating that is.
Mine got ahold of a mouse they found in their feed bin over the weekend, we had a bit of rain and I guesst the little guy went into the bin to stay dry. He was better off stuck out in the rain.
whoa just watched the youtube broom stick method, I think I'll stick to letting my fiance do the deed. Here I was before we bought them all "i'll feed it and pet it and love it and walk it twice a day and even kill it" yeah right. Him and his friends usually make a day of it. I have the...
I know how you feel, and sometimes it stinks, but I know that out of all the people I talk personally that have chickens or had chickens or knew someone that had a chicken. No one gives me more information then here on byc. And that is always appreciated. I hope that everyones responses have...
I must say ever since reading this my fiance refuses to cook eggs when I'm around, I can't help but to sit there and point out which ones are fertile and which ones aren't. Something about knowing completely grosses him out. I find it fascinating. I've learned so much from byc!!
No they haven't molted yet all of them have feathers intact non of them look out of the ordinary. Pep talks have been given, squeezing them until an egg pops out has been threatened jk!
We have also put new hay were they lay there eggs since they had scratched and kicked most of it off.
I've posted this before but now have a bit of new information. As you can see at the bottom the breeds that I have. My two female buff cochins and my red stars are 33 weeks today the rest of the bunch is 23 weeks old. I was getting eggs everyday from my red stars and cochins until mid to late...
