Last Saterday I got a new rooster and now he's not doing so well 3 days later. He's a Silver Laced Spitzhauben. It was about a 2 hour drive from where we had got him so he was in the car for quite a while. The first hours at his new home seemed ok and they all treated him like he's been living...
Today I noticed one of my chickens behinds was covered with poop. She has been making noises like she was straining to go to the bathroom but I wonder if it was because of all the gunk on there? Anyway, I cut away some of the feathers but left some because it was too close too the skin to cut...
I currently have 5 roosters and was planning on selling 2 of them. The other 3 are like best friends and don't want to split them. They're about 7 months old and I'm afraid they'll go to a bad home or be used as meat. I was wondering what kind of questions should I ask in order to try and...
I think it is bumblefoot but just more on his toe. I soaked his feet in epson salt water for about 10 minutes and then put benadine around the area to clean it off. I then was able to pull off the scabs. The one on his foot was ok but the one on his toe pretty much squirted blood when you...
If its not bumblefoot what do you think it might be?
I can't tell if its a scab or dirt. I pulled some off the other day and I thought I saw pus.
I read the you use antibiotics to treat it. The only antibiotics I have are clavamox 62.5 mg but not sure if that's safe or an accurate dose. Next...
My rooster has a large bump on his toe that keeps continuing to grow. At first I thought it might have been broken but now it doesn't appear to be since its grown so large that his toe doesn't sit flat on the ground. I thought about trying to pop it but wanted to know what you guys thought.
Keep her inside so others wont peck on her. Use benadine to clean the wound and clean it daily. I'd wrap it to make sure maggots don't get in there. Ones those get in there its really hard to get them out. Make sure she continues to eat and drink. Give her about a drop maybe 2 of polyvisol and...
the only thing is that these werent just cracked. There was a lot of the shell missing. Theres 5 more yet to hatch and 2 of those have already pecked through the shell. Hopefully the other 3 will be ok.
So sadly the chick died. I'm going to invest in a small incubator for these type of situations. This is the third time she has cracked the shell of an egg and lost a chick. Is it even possible to save a chick with a cracked shell? Please let me know...
I have an egg due to hatch in 2-3 days. I had to take it from the mother cause she cracked the shell so I was kind of forced to make a incubator. I put it in a 10 gallon fish tank that has a lid, thermometer, a bowl with water, and a fan. The temp is about 101. Chick seems to be content cause...
So the last chick didn't survive but now have anotherone with a cracked shell. Its about 19 says old. I put it in a 10 gallon fish tank with a cover. I have the temperature at about 99 degrees, theres a fan to circulate the air, and a bowl of water for humidy. Anything else I need to do?
So yesterday I left the chick under the mother and it had maybe 80% of the shell left. As of today it has maybe 30%. The chick is still alive and you can see it squirming around inside the thin membrane. It's her second time trying to hatch chicks (first time no success) so she's still new to...
Once again, I discovered the egg cracked at one end to where almost all of the shell was broken off and then the other end is cracked also. Don't know how she did it. Its not supposed to hatch till wednesday. I put bandaids over each end till it finishs developing. Hopefull it will work.
Any...
Tonight I went out to check my hen hen who has been sitting now for about 24 days. Two of the eggs were pecked open early in the begining, two more stopped developing, and now the last chick is fighting for it's life. I discovered the egg cracked and broken like she had stepped on it. The chick...
Thats good. At least you got to see keep away and not tug-o-war in which case, both chickens split the prize lol. Not a pretty picture:th. Can mice spread diseases though? Or do chickens have immunes systems to fight of most diseases they carry?
The other day I mouse got into the coop and the chickens went on attacked mode, killed it, and then ate it. I was disgusting but couldn't catch up to the bird to grab and toss the mouse. I was wondering if this is normal and is it ok for them to eat the mice?
Thank you for your help. Unfortunately he did not make it. Poor little guy. I'm glad he's not suffering but I still feel horrible:hit
If anyone can take a look and the other bird and see if they know what wrong please do so. I need advice. I can't loose another.
I'm not sure if he'd know cause they don't treat birds. Not many place around here do. One place I went to didn't see my chicken as a worthy animal and just told me to put it down. So I'm a little sceptical to call them for advice.
I have some antibiotic and pain killers that were supposed to be used on my cat but never used them. One is called Clavamox which is a amoxicillin based drug and Metacam which is a pain medication. Should I toss them or could they be useful in small portions for chickens?
