    Impacted Crop- help!

    - friend of mine just told me that one of her teenage roosters is ill, probably an impacted crop. Does anyone have any advice on what to do to help it pass?

The coop is either 4X5 or 4X6. We plan on keeping one Buff Roo and the one Buff pullet. For the others I am trying to find a good home for. So you think as long as they have their own roost they should be ok? Should I take all food out?

Ok so here it is again. The left side of the coop that’s separated is where the teenagers have been sleeping. Right side is nesting boxes and roost for big hens up top. The problem with this design is that I need to leave the big hatch open so that everyone can get in their respective areas. And...

Please excuse the mess. I’m getting ready to clean the whole thing out again and get it ready for the colder days.

Here are some pictures of the teenagers and big hens. Left area is for the young ones. Roost up top and right where the nesting boxes are, is for the older hens.

no, they are all together in the chicken run during the day. At night, mama and babies used to be in the coop with everyone else, but I separated them with chicken fencing so that they wouldn't get hurt after the incident. Then, 5 weeks later, momma hen left the babies and went to roost with the...

The incident was when they were two weeks old and still sleeping under momma hen. I’ll measure the space later and check.

The others only go after them if there is food.. from what I’ve seen. Peepers? Keeps them from opening their beaks?

Hi! I have 4 teenage chickens (likely 3 Roos and 1 hen) that my GLW hatched 10 weeks ago. She took good care of them until they were about 7 weeks old. They now sleep alone in a closed off area at night on a mini roost but I’ve seen at least one of them trying to get up on the big girls roost at...

    Thinking of having some chickens

Welcome! We have A Barred Rock, Good Laced Wyandotte, and some Easter Egger and Buff Orpington teenagers. I honestly LOVE Buff Orpingtons. So much so, that when my first one died a few months ago, i knew I needed to have a other one. We hatched a few eggs and now we have two Buffs. I love them...

7 week old EAster Egger and Buff Orpington gender?

I see what you mean. He is very splotchy. And honestly the personality is a bit more rooster-ish than I would like. Any thoughts on the BO? That’s the same bird in all pictures. I have one that I’m pretty sure is female since there is literally no comb and she’s very docile. The one in the...

7 week old EAster Egger and Buff Orpington gender?

So is that pretty much a sure thing? Or can coloring be deceiving sometimes? I was hoping that he/she would be a pullet

7 week old EAster Egger and Buff Orpington gender?

Hi! Any guesses on these two? They are 7 weeks old. For me it changes in the day... these days I’m thinking more pullet.

Another Roo or Pullet thread ! :)

Interesting! Her comb is smaller and just a little pink but her attitude makes me wonder what she really is... changes day by day it seems.

Another Roo or Pullet thread ! :)

So I think I just witness the latter part of the light grey chick trying to mate with the mom... jumped on her and seemed like he or she was pulling on her neck feathers or comb. Would that indicate that it’s not a pullet?

Hens squatting for my husband and I!!!!

I read that’s it’s a sign of them seeing you as the leader but also a protection mechanism. All of time hens do it too, which is nice because it makes picking them up so much easier :) my little 7 week old chicks don’t squat so they are impossible to catch unless they are in the coop. :)
