Hens squatting for my husband and I!!!!

Squatting means eggs should be coming soon (or resuming... I know molt is over when my hens squat again), and yes, it's their way of "looking for a good time." You can encourage it by petting them at the base of the tail until they ruffle up and shake, though keep in mind by doing that, they'll be more prone to squatting whenever they see you and you'll need to be careful that you don't kick them when they suddenly freeze in front of you.

I read that’s it’s a sign of them seeing you as the leader but also a protection mechanism. All of time hens do it too, which is nice because it makes picking them up so much easier :) my little 7 week old chicks don’t squat so they are impossible to catch unless they are in the coop. :)

Here is a pic of my wyandotte squatting for me lol

I'm glad I read this thread. We are newbies on our new farm and are learning as we go. I hand raised all of ours from chicks and they all follow me around and do this as well, but only for me.

That means you are their leader and they love you enough to offer themselves sexually to you! LOL! :gig I think it is both adorable and hilarious. I feel honored.
