I watched a youtube of dusting birds in a sack to rid them of mites.... so i did a liberal amount of DE in the sack... then a small amount of Permethrin Powder also... dusted each in the bag...worked well. ASLO I cleanded out the coop and hen house.... burned all the bedding ...nest boxes...
I created an excel sheet to track egg production of my flock. I am doing a daily log and have the amount of sunlight as well as moon cycle added in. I am just doing it for fun... but it will be interesting to see how it looks after a while.
Anyone have other ideas or already existing tracking...
Same question.... I have 4 hens that are just now of egg laying age. Cedar laid our coops 1st egg on Saturday..skipped Sunday and then one a day since..BUT today there were two...is one of the other gals laying eggs..Cedar is a BO and exibits all the signs of being ready...the other BO is...
So... This adventure began in April. My flock is doing well and as I had been warned would happen..chicken math has struck.( 6 chicks to start..2 rooster given away..3 hens came home...and rescued an injured hen this weekend)

issue resolved.... An rural egg farmer took the boys and I came home with 3 new ladies...funny how that goes...take 2 away get 3..I have heard of chicken math...hmmmmm.... What came home were a Golden Laced Wyandotte.. aka Betsy, a RIR aka Lucy Rose after Lucile Ball and a Barred Rock aka Cookie...

UPDATE: Ok so I was a doting parent of my gals... last night a friend stopped by...the sun set and when they left I went out to put the ladies in the coop/henhouse...well...they went in on their own... I think I was just not giving them enough time to go in on their own.....
We have 3 Buff Orpington and 3 Black Australorps.... 3 or 6 nesting boxes?? I have read 1 per bird as well as 1 for every two birds....

So my ladies are still not walking up the ramp into the hen house at dusk...am now wondering if it is too dark in the hen house. I have no windows....only ventilation....and with the roof ..it is very dim ....even during the day...and dark at dusk.... is this the issue?
Holy hard work.... 12'x8'x8' 1/2" hardware cloth...metal roofing.... hens are loving it and the bunny has joined them... now to get the buggers to climb the ladder at night on their own...
