ISO/wanted show quality Cochins, Silkies & Bantam Polish.

I'm looking either for day old chicks to be shipped, or hatching eggs from Washington State. I am in Wenatchee, and will consider traveling an hour away. I would prefer to purchase from somewhere close, as I don't want the eggs to have a long transit time. I am OK with purchasing quality day old...

Need help choosing the best brown egg layer.

I am going to be buying some egg laying hens in the spring. I have a lot more experience with bantams and fancy breeds than layers. I have already decided on white Leghorns and Americanas, although I am trying to decide on a brown egg laying breed. I have been looking at RIR's, Production Reds...

What would steal an egg AND a golf ball?

I recently watched a TV show where a family was having all of their golf balls stolen from their yard. They set up a camera, and it turned out to be a fox. It didn't matter how many golf balls they put out everyday, the fox would come through and take them each night. If you had a fox it would...

First timers with all those newbie ??s

Welcome spock78! Dirt floors are fine. A pullet is a hen under one year of age. Some breeds start laying earlier than others, usually around about 18 to 24 weeks. You can keep different breeds together without problems. If you want fertilized eggs you have to have a rooster, and a hen can keep...

Not sure what I have ..

I would say that is a Silver Spangled Spitzhauben hen. From the picture it is really hard to tell, but the rooster looks pretty short, maybe it is a Barred Cochin? Does he have feathers on his feet?

    Chickens don't like outside....

They just need time to get used to it. The outside scares them right now, and the ones that went out probably realized it wasn't horrible, and decided to stay. They should all go out in time.

mixing of chicks pullets and feed

Adult chickens can eat Chick Starter, but chicks should not eat Layer feed.

    Bantam assortment

If it is a Spangled OEGB then I would say it is a rooster, because of the coloring. The hens are much more dull.

Am i wasting my time????please help

I can understand not having the time to read a whole book, when all you want is to know about one small thing. I have no idea how much you know about chickens, but to other inexperienced people, I have to say that it is extremely important to know about the basics of chicken care, and you should...

    Chickens and Pygmy goats? Questions...

Make sure to get at least two goats, they will not be happy if they are alone. I keep my goats and chickens together. The only problem I have is having to keep the chicken feeder off of the ground about 4 feet so the goats can not eat it. Since they are bottle babies, and you spend a lot of time...

my new chicks - what breeds are they?

I would stop using the vitamins made for finches, you should only use something that says it is for baby chicks. Also check to see how much calcium is in the vitamin you are giving them. Calcium is not good for chicks. Are the chicks spread out evenly over the brooder, or still huddled together...
