We have 3 rungs. layered so nobody gets pooped on. They are all stuffed on the top rung, all seven used to scrunch up there. I have not watched to see why "Lucy" ends up outside on the roof. I usually go out to check after dark.
I have 7 beautiful hens who have been very close since they were chicks. Always have huddled together. Recently one hen has been roosting on top of the coop instead of going inside with the others at night. We have to go out every night and put her in. My thought is all 7 seven of them try to...
Laid just one egg. Silly girl made a nest in the same spot below the nesting box. Maybe we need to make a ramp to get to the nesting box? We will give her some time to get the hang of it.
Thanks!, I might try putting her in there today. We did put golf balls in the boxes. All they have done is take some of the straw out and made a nest in the coop! Cute. ooo I her making the laying squawk now!
Our chicken laid her first eggs! 2 in one day. I am pretty sure it was her. The other 2 chickens aren't doing any egg laying behaviors and they are a few weeks younger than her!
Also, she did not lay in the nesting box. Will she learn to lay in the nesting box? We built a coop according to...
I have heard a good way to keep chickens from pooping in the nesting box was not to introduce them to it too early. My little ones are 10 to 11 weeks old. We have the nesting boxes closed off. When should we open them?
My chicks are almost 7 wks old. I will be buying growers feed and adding that to the medicated feed till its gone. But I was wondering if I can give them any of the treats from the treat list yet? Or should I hold off until they are older?
Three things was told on how to stop pecking. 1. Hang a shiny CD in the brooder, they peck at it instead. 2. red warming light helps. 3. Spread Pine tar on the picked on chick. Chickens hate the taste. This is found in horse section of feed store. Hope this helps.
