Are ducks/geese safe at night by the water?

I think I'm going to settle for an automatic chicken coop door on amazon. Maybe hook up a door contact sensor to a raspberry pi which can be configured to send an email alert if the door doesn't open in the middle of the day so that I can have someone check on it.

Are ducks/geese safe at night by the water?

The idea was for a low maintenance designed that just provided shelter and a way out if threatened. But I suspect the birds would be too late to react even if I did illuminate the area. How can you protect free range waterfowl from predators like hawks?

Are ducks/geese safe at night by the water?

Here's my plan. I want to build a small shack by the water for a couple ducks and geese to sleep in at night and live free range. It will basically be just to keep them in shelter but not provide any actual security from predators. I have a spotlight that I could aim at the shack and...

    Can chickens drink pond water?

Are the parasites you speak of visible to the naked eye? What I set the pump to run constantly and use an overflow drain in the water trough so that the water is constantly flowing and doesn't have the chance to sit? I was thinking of doing that in the winter and then using the float switch...

Rain water catch for duck pond

If you have a pond or well water source nearby that would be the most preferred option, even if you have to dig a trench to bury the hose. They make heated garden hoses that would be easy to hide under the ground and safe from mowers. I thought of the idea of using rainwater but its just too...

    Can chickens drink pond water?

I built a small chicken coop and run near my pond with the intention of using a submersible fountain pump to fill a water trough with a float switch to control the shutoff point. I figured out a way to prevent this setup from freezing in the winter, but I just want to know if its even worth...

Are 110V float switches safe to use outside of a sump pump?

I'm planning on putting a big 50 gallon water trough in my duckhouse to use as a pool. It would have a motorized drain valve like this that would run on a timer so that every afternoon it drains and gets flushed out until it closes and the pump shuts off when full. I figured out everything at...

Heres my design for a self filling and cleaning duck pond/water source that is freeze resistant

I just found out that a heated garden hose is a thing. In theory, you should be able to bury that sucker under the ground and put some pipe insulation on it and it should be good. Do you remember the specs to your pump? my pond is about 50 ft away and about 10ft lower than the duck house, so...

Heres my design for a self filling and cleaning duck pond/water source that is freeze resistant

My idea to have a water source for my ducks to clean and drink out of is to have fresh water below the surface of a near by pond pumped in 24/7 into a kiddie pond with a drain (that could be blocked if needed), so that water is constantly circulating between these two reservoirs. I want all my...

How could I automate the watering process in the winter?

What if you have water flowing all the time through an insulated pipe 18 inches below ground? My pond is only 30 ft from. The duck house, so I could have a fountain pump always supplying water to a bucket with an overflow drain. Then use a heat lamp to heat the nipples.

How could I automate the watering process in the winter?

I have a pond that I occasionally let my ducks loose in when home, but I would like to somehow use that as a source of water in their coop/run. I am thinking of buying a big 5 gallon bucket with the chicken nipples installed, and then run a water fountain pump with the hose about 2 feet under...
