These are my wonderful RIR;s and today exactly 20 weeks old, I got my first eggs. 3 out of my 5 hens blessed me this morning. Have taken pics but have not uploaded as of yet. I was soooo excited.
Hi Everyone
I am new the chicken world and have 5 young pullets and 1 cockerel, all Rhode Island Reds. I am thinking of entering my cockerel in a local small Country Fair and would like to know what I need to do. He is so pretty in my eyes and it would be a great learning experience.
Any...
My only concern is when I go to work in the morning. If I make sure their water is fresh and the food is ok, will they be ok for 8-9 hours until I get home?
Life's Abundance is a VERY good dog food. You can check out the ratings on this website where it gives you all the details on what is in each product. Some ingredients just might surprise you.
I found this website to be very informative. It also gives them ratings.

Thank you so much everyone, I am not going to worry too much then. I figured they would be older by the time the lawn mowing season starts so they should be ok then. My vaccum is really loud so that was what I was worried about. With two dogs I could not consider not vaccuming for a month or...
Hi Everyone, I am planning on keeping my new arrivals in the house for the first month as the weather here is still extremely cold. I have my brooder set up in the basement already to go and while mentally going over a check list, I suddenly thought about household noise. Will loud noises...

Thank you everyone, I will definately pick up a red one now that I know there could be a difference. I want to make sure these little gals get the best start they can.
Ok, now I am a little confused. I have my brooder all set up and waiting for my new chicks to arrive. A fellow I work with me who also raises chickens told me to make sure I got the white heat lamp bulbs. But now I just read on a hatchery website to never use the white ones, only the red...
Welcome from another Canadian who has also decided to take the plunge this spring. You will enjoy these forums, everyone is so friendly and helpful and lots of good information for us new eggs. I am learning so much.
Welcome to BYC. I am from Canada and I am also new here. I am currently waiting for my new babies to arrive in April, but in the meantime I am here reading and learning. I am so looking forward to my little ones arrival.
Oh my goodness, now I can't wait for my first ones. I am so nervous they will not live, they seem so delicate. I know I will be having a hard time sleeping once they arrive.
Thank you all so much, this helps enormously. My husband was concerned that if the water was not the best that the impurities would be passed through to the eggs and then we would ingest them. By what I have read about their food diets, the water seems to be the least of my worries.
I am new here and going to be new to the wonderful life of raising chicks. I have 6 ordered that will be coming in April. Until then I have been reading and reading and following alot of your posts on here to fill myself with knowledge. I have not come across an article on water. I have read...
