help sexing Orpington chicks 11-12 weeks old approx

Hi there, If it’s not too early to tell can anyone help with the gender of my chicks. I can hear someone attempting to crow and I have my suspicions but I haven’t seen him actually crow he stopped by the time I got down to the coop. I have 6 chicks - 3 black (2 of which have a beautiful green...

    Sexing silkies

No luck yet but I am going to try a bird sanctuary today, they have roosters there. I don’t mind keeping him for a bit but our neighbours are very close!

    Sexing silkies

Thank you for the info! The other 2 look like they have dark blue very small comb. I haven’t heard of serama, I will check it out now. So far it seems we are slightly more limited for breeds in NZ than other places or perhaps just in my searches for fertile eggs. I have a brown leghorn, 2...

    Sexing silkies

They are all from the same place. I bought them as silkies and from what I’ve read it just happens sometimes that they can turn out to be frizzle instead? The eggs all looked exactly the same when I got them. That’s a bummer but I will just wait and see. Just have to see who crows I suppose! I...

    Sexing silkies

We live in New Zealand, I just bought some fertile eggs locally. Oh man! I thought the brown fluffy might be a roo as well. I’ll get a pic of the white one. Hoping we have at least one hen. Hatched 3 of 6 eggs.

    Sexing silkies

Hello everyone, I have been told I might have some cockerel sounds coming from my young silkies. We have 3 chicks and they are about 2 months old, maybe more. I think my frazzled silkie might be a roo but it is so gorgeous (aren’t they all) that I don’t want to let it go if I’m wrong. We...

    Hello from NZ!

Thank you for sharing that Nordic Chick! I do hope she is a girl, we have named her and she is only our second bird. Mama hen is already broody again though so I have given her some fertile silver campine and leghorn eggs and am patiently awaiting some more little fluffy bums in a few weeks!

    Hello from NZ!

That's another thing I was looking out for Flock Master64, thanks for your input. I'm not incredibly worried about it just more curiosity. Will certainly find out at some stage if the neighbours complain. We aren't allowed to keep a roo here in town is the main thing. Hello and thank yous to...

    Hello from NZ!

Thank you for your reply and helpful tips! Usually I have only found my way onto the site via google searches for specific things and I am only using the mobile version at the moment so I will have to do some browsing on the computer later to try and get a better idea of what to post where...

    Hello from NZ!

Hello everyone, I have found so many helpful threads on this site to help me with caring for my chickens so far (4 months in) but I've decided to join and see if anyone would like to give me their opinion on the sex of my 3 month old lavender araucana. I have thought female and haven't heard...
