A thousand thanks for your reply, I sent her this thread and what you said about putting a pencil under the incubator to turn them was really interesting, I never thought of that.
Just an update, all 3 hatched and have been in the brooder for about a couple days with no deaths, she's still using...
To get to the point, I'm worried about my friend possibly (non-purposefully) sabotaging the survival of her quails. It's her first time ever hatching anything, and she is hatching some bobwhite quail eggs bought online.
I lent her my incubator which I've used for indian runner duck eggs, all...
Are they supposed to have a lot of white on them? I just thought her being mostly black was genetics but that does explain why my other female who was cream-ish colour suddenly grew more white plumage. Do you think this is anything to worry about?
Just over 2 years old and she laid last spring. She lays blue eggs and I have been collecting some blue ones but I think they're from someone else since hers tended to be rounder but I'm not sure.
As the title says, my female duck has just grown a curly tail feather like all drakes have! I know that she is female because of her deep quack and most of all I have seen her lay an egg with my own eyes. When it first began growing I thought maybe it was just an out of place feather but today...
As the cold months come round and rain falls more frequently, the lovely green grass soon turns to a muddy marsh thanks to the duckies. :D
Usually when spring comes, the grass also grows back but for the last couple years it has been mostly plantain weeds.
To get the grass growing again I was...
After about 48 hours since the external pip, the duckling managed to break out but for about half an hour hasn't been able to get the other half of the shell off. I'm scared he can't get out and I don't know if I need to assist or just to wait it out. Does anyone have advice?
Worrying a little bit about the humidity in my mini incubator, I've managed to keep it at around 65% the whole time but in the morning it will suddenly be really low, like 30%! Despite being about 70% before I go to bed. So in the morning I'll take off the lid and fill up the little dish with...
I once gave my ducks a ball with a bell in it but they hardly touched it!
But if you hide grubs or veggies around for them to find and forage, they'll enjoy that. Or buy some live crickets to catch. > : )
Hi, I have 7 indian runners and my drake constantly attacks this one old female that isn't so good on her feet and is just really frail in general. She always runs, sometimes they will mate and others he will sit on top of her then get off again or just peck her neck a lot to the point where she...
So I hatched three ducklings in August and two are very healthy. However, the third was weak when born and I wasn't sure if she'd make it but she did and she's been growing up nicely but slower than the others. Recently though, I noticed that she doesn't have great balance and her tail is almost...
Hiya! Thought I'd join this site as it's been useful. :)
I'm a proud owner of four old Indian runners (used to have 6) and three new baby runners (who are growing so fast!).
I've looked after ducks for about 4 years but only hatched ducklings once, I hope to hatch more.
I'm looking forward to...
