I raise meat rabbits as a backyard pursuit, and have just started to keep quails. To cure weaning enteritis in rabbits: To prevent: when you wean, remove water supply, hang up bottle with 1l water and 5ml pepto bismol. Fill the feeder with a standard amount and keep watch that it gets eaten...

Evil is still around, but he's not growing? *PICS*

Bun of that age not growing can be a stomach problem which turns up about a week after their mom weaned them, enteritis has a particular smell and the animals has a dirty butt. Not all of them will feel terrible from it(and die), some just get real skinny for a while before it cures itself...

    thinking of getting bees

...busy fanning to keep it out...) I don't get stung. In essence, the bees ignore you unless you goof and then you hear the hive emit a collective *bzzz* and then it's time to gently and quickly put the frame back and retreat a few minutes until they've settled and you can work them again. You...

    Cat desertion problem

...really care about (well, the rest are cuddly and nutritious) and I feel almost as bad as when I lost my first boyfriend And yes, I'm also jealous *blush* I kind of resent having my cat enticed away and amazingly, against better knowledge and maturity, I'm also somewhat upset with him for...

    Quick Egg Selling Rant....

Quote: I've pre-ordered so I could keep my small brooder busy and because I wanted 60 eggs. So, being able to pre-order and ask for a projected delivery date is a great service I much apprechiate. You're not a shoddy seller, he is a rude customer and if I was you, I'd refund the man and no...

    Cat desertion problem

Hi all, I have a kitteh problem. My cat is a neutered 14 year old who has quite a feisty personality. He's been with me for the past 6 years and until a couple of weeks ago, everything was just fine. But then I moved a bunch of laying quail into the conservatory and at the same time, my...

    Dealing with the heat

Fill and freeze soda pop bottles, the larger the merrier. Then stick them close to the cage, or in case of the rabbits, just pop them in the cage, and they'll 'snuggle' up as they want.

There's one in every crowd! - new pic

It's just a classic case of anatidaephobia which can only be cured by realizing that every duck is actually wearing a wolf mask. But I'd still check the beast for opposable thumbs disguised as claws if I was you...

What is the angle and how big is the gap for an "egg catcher" crate?

Quote: You could design it like a piano lid that you can lift up, one lid for each egg catcher. But that becomes tedious to lift up over time, and it's ever so easy to forget to close too. Or, you can think of the quail cage like a wardrobe with inset cages, and that you affix another door...

how or where to learn about breeding?

You can expect to maintain your small colony if you keep buying in eggs every 2-3 generations(so if you keep your hens 30 weeks that's not too often!), but 'breeding' as such is not really possible unless you have enough animals, and even with new blood, you may easily end up with an unthrifty...

What is the angle and how big is the gap for an "egg catcher" crate?

Quote: My eggs are around 27mm at the thickest. So the gap is 3cm, which means, that almost any rodent can get in there, and your best solution is to have a protective door with smaller wiremesh (1/4" keeps mice out) to protect your cage. The egg gap also means that the hens enjoy craning...

Thinking on getting white coturnix quail

I have the 'any colour quail' breed and one thing that is noticable is that the white birds have much thinner skin than the brown ones and also are much slower to cover their backs with feathers, even at 6 weeks old, they have bald patches on their backs, and the feathers there stay at the...

    Little Nervous

Quote: 1. Automatic watering system if you have more than 3 cages of anything, quails can use Edstrom rabbit nipples. 2. Detailed workplan/checklist for your caretaker, to make the job a no-brainer and to take the stress off their mind of not getting things right. 3. Set out everything they...

    Coturnix not all laying eggs

Quote: I read that as they get older, they lay less and your birds are now over a year old. Or it could be stress, maybe some wild critter is bothering them, check the pen for mice, insects etc. It could even be a fox -- I swear the foxes round here enjoy spooking pets just for the fun of...
