Can anyone identify these symptoms of illness?

A couple of weeks ago we had a Rainbow Dixie hen that we had to put down because of bleeding from her vent. She was only a year old. Two weeks prior to putting her down we noticed she had a large backend and her comb was pale. I thought her large backend was due to the fact she was naturally...

    Strange object in nest

I went out to collect eggs and came across this strange thing in the nesting box. Did this come out of one of my hens?

    False Calls?

I'm in the process of finding out which hens have started to lay. Anytime I hear the "I layed an egg" song I go out to see who is singing and grab the egg. Lately I have had 3 hens sing but then there is no egg in the nest. This is not just my new gals either as one of my old girls did it today...

    New nipple waterer

Our old metal water fount was getting rusty so I heard this was better. I'm concerned if it is going to leak the whole time though!

I didn't realize there was a horizontal nipple also!

    New nipple waterer

I did press the nipples to show the water so I hope that works. They just look a bit lost. Maybe I'm just worrying too much.

    New nipple waterer

I got a new drip/nipple waterer for my girls. A few things I have concerns about. 1) will they learn to drink from it? 2) how high should it hang? 3) the nipples do drip slowly when no hen is drinking, should that be happening? 4) do I need to worry about the nipples freezing in the winter?

    Poopy bottom

We do have a different food in there since we have the chicks in the coop too. Maybe it's that. Thx!

    Rooster?

I have not heard any crowing. I was concerned because it has bigger feet than the other hens, a redder crest and seems more aggressive.

My hen has poop sticking to her rear. I have cleaned her once and she needs to be cleaned again. Any ideas on what may be causing this?

    Metal vs. plastic watering container

Our metal watering container is getting rusty. I assume the rust is not good for the chickens so I plan on getting a new one. How bad is the rust for the chickens? Which brand or material do you use and why?

    Moving to coop

We have an exsisting flock in our coop eating layer. We are about to start the process of introducing our chicks to the coop. My concern is the food difference. The chicks are 8 weeks now and I'll be feeding them Grower. Of course my old flock is on layer feed. Is it ok for the chicks to have...

We need to make a new bigger roost for both the outside run and inside the coop. What DIY roosts have you created? Please include pics if you can.

This is about the stage all my girls are at. But we have 3 old girls in the coop so I am also concerned about size.

    Is it me?!

It is large with room to exercise. I do have half the bin covered for shade from the light and the light is moved up so as not to get too hot. Thanks for the tips, the chick passed away last night. The other 3 are happy and healthy.

    Is it me?!

Thanks for the info! I have the chicks in a large plastic bin with a heat lamp for a heat source. I'm feeding them some medicated crumble. They are staying in the house until they are about 2 months old and can handle being introduced to the old hens. I'll add some electrolytes to the water to...

    Is it me?!

We picked up 2 chicks from our local co-op, a buff Orpington and gold laced Wyandotte. Within 24hrs the Orpington died. A few days later we picked up 3 more chicks from the same place, 2 americanas and a Delaware. One Americana is now acting really weak. The other chicks are looking great. They...
