    Thank you all so very much. This is my first experience with a broody hen, so I'm really excited and proud for her. I'm going to risk moving her this evening. I figure the odds are better of her staying broody, than of me catching the snake, or whatever it is.

    Someone recently gave me three beautiful black copper marans hens, and a black copper marans rooster. I absolutely love them. They didn't lay for the first few weeks after we got them, so I put a fake egg in their nest, and about a week later they started laying a couple of eggs every other day...

    We can't let ours free range either. They have plenty of room, but no grass, so I feel like I need to add as much to their diet as I can. Thanks for all the food ideas. This site is so great for us new eggs.
