Emu - anyone used leg bands for older birds?

We've had these https://nationalband.com/products/multi-loc-plastic-band-1703/ on our three emus (all girls; we're figuring out how to get some boys), size small. The girls are 13 months old.

    Question about meat emus

I have seen so much info that if an emu chick develops splayed legs, there's no way to recover. I'm wondering if that means that there's no way to raise them to slaughter weight? I. E., they don't survive/thrive long enough with the deformation?

    Emus have arrived!

Thank you - they are! All three of us are completely besotted ;-) And here's a bonus pic: OK, two:

    Emus have arrived!

We did stop briefly at our niece's house so her daughter could meet the babies. They'll be visiting in June for family reunion, and I know the chicks will be at least as tall as she is!

    Emus have arrived!

...They handled the 5 hour drive home very well, and are currently enslaving our daughter. She is completely smitten, and I suspect I might get a *little* tired of "OMG, they're so CUUUUUUTE!" squeals of infatuation. I assured ES Emus that these young 'uns would be loved and spoiled, but I...

    Incubator Size? (Help please!)

Call a, thanks so much! We're still quite far away from incubating our own,but this info will definitely be helpful when we do. Right now, we're discussing fence type and planning on where their paddock will go; I would like to have everything at 80% completion by the time any emu chicks come...

    Incubator Size? (Help please!)

Why do you have the automatic turner off? We have a Brinsea Octagon, too, and we wondering how many emu eggs would fit in it. We're planning on starting with emu chicks, but eventually want to hatch our own eggs, so this would be great information to have.

Chicken math works in mysterious ways...

We just recently moved our 15 chicks (5-7 weeks old) out to their palace... And last night, beloved husband was poking around on the net and purchased a dozen Narragansett eggs and an egg brooder. So, I'm going have to do a lot of new research here, LOLOLOLOL I wonder what's next... Hm...

    I'm just so happy!

...They are so awesome, and I'm having so much fun with them. We are only a family of 3 with 15 (!!!???) chickies... But I can feel the intense tug of CHICKEN MATH!! And, yes, yes we DO have a security camera (with remote movability!) in the coop - because we are total nerds *giggle*

    Coop color??

My coop is a lovely light green that Home Depot calls "corn husk green" trimmed with white. I like it very much!

The Nugget Nest is 95% done!

...of a sort of cutting board plastic that my Beloved Husband bought. He wanted to make sure that the wood underneath was fully weather and poop-proof *grinz* And here's me a week ago (-ish) before we finished the run. We put them out under a canopy and fenced with chicken wire while we were...

...coop we just finished, and the app/website-on-mobile-Chrome would not let me. It said it wasn't completed due to "low memory." Then I got a link to the photos' location in my Google album, instead that, but no thumbnail came up, and the small icon in my post won't link out to the picture...

The Nugget Nest is 95% done!

Weird. I can't upload to BYC due to "low memory" and the link to my photos on Google isn't working. (pouts)

The Nugget Nest is 95% done!

Well, here's a closer pic of the door into the run, right next to the nest boxes. You might be able to see the upper, triangular door at the peak of the roof for the last vent. And here, their "viewing window is closed because it's a damp, cool day.

...daughter and occasional help from me - and in his research he saw "ventilation, ventilation, VENTILATION!" so he made sure he designed it in. *grinz* I think he's brilliant! He did the overhangs for exactly the reason you said: we want the coop to be open and airy in as many weather...

The Nugget Nest is 95% done!

And yesterday it was mentioned that perhaps "Nugget Nest" isn't as awesome a name as the Fowl Fortress..... ;-)

The Nugget Nest is 95% done!

Oh, and what LOOKS like a pop door on the front is actually a screened window with a hinged panel cover. Extra ventilation, and my girls love looking out of it when they're closed in the coop.
