Thanks for the reply. I agree, I think it was an egg that was kicked out of the broody's nest. Wouldn't it smell though? Would the floating test have caught it? Is it okay to do the float test on all eggs as I usually just dry brush them? All these questions...

Lately my hens have been laying an abundance of eggs and I have been sharing with coworkers. To my dismay a coworker reported that one of her eggs was bad. I would love some insight into what went wrong so this doesn't happen again!!! I'm truly mortified!!! Here is the scoop:
I do have a...
Just wondering how your situation went. We are going to be in the same boat this spring and I can not handle losing half our flock to this horrible disease again!!! Did you successfully introduce the new ladies to your original flock? Any one come down with Marek's symptoms? Hope all went well!!
Well... I feel like quite the inadequate chicken keeper!!! After doing a bit more research, I'm thinking we may have multiple issues. First, lice/mite infestation. A few of my older hens are missing feathers on their backs. I assumed our roo was a bit rough but now I'm thinking otherwise. I...
Looking for some advice. We have lost three chickens in the last few days with two more that I don't expect the make it through the night. Our 9 mo old rooster was the first to go two days ago. He hung around the coop more than usual the day before he died and then the next day he had very...
Newbie question here, not even sure this is the right forum, but here we go...I put a few of my white cochin hen's eggs in the bator with my ordered polish eggs to act as a "control group." She is in with a black cochin roo. What should I expect from the chicks?
Thanks!!!
Megan
Today is the morning of day 22. We had 2 pip on the eve of day 20 and 5 out and fluffy by the end of day 21. Now nothing. Nada. I'm bummed because I have been long awaiting the arrival of my cochin, silkie, and polish eggs, and these guys are just sitting there This is only my second hatch...
Same situation here! I ordered 15 guineas back in Feb. and canceled in April via email and voicemail. Come May 29th the guineas were on my door step. Only 11 in the box, 2 dead on arrival, and 5 died within 12 hours. I finally got through to Cackle the next morning and after much debate they...
our four older ladies are in their own coop and religiously give us three eggs a day. yesterday, when i collected eggs i got three normal eggs and one tiny, teeny egg (see photo). checked back later that night and found one more little egg. our rir is old (approximately 5 yrs.) and we don't...
UPDATE
checked on my broody and babies this afternoon and she and babes were out of the nest. only three made it because of MY ERROR. so warning to all you other newbies!!! DON'T LET THE CHICKS HATCH IN A TUB OR BASKET. all nine hatched out and looked very healthy, but 6 fell out of the tub...
so, first time broody henner. she was sitting on 9 guinea eggs that started to hatch monday the 2nd. she will not let us near her or the nest (which is in a tub with 4 inch sides). at least one chick died and is outside the nest. i would like to move her and the chicks out of the tub so the...
UPDATE
For those that helped with the previous post, I thank you!!!! The dying has slowed and we are left with 4 guinea fowl. I did actually speak with a real human at Cackle on Saturday morning. They apologized and asked how to remedy the situation. I let them know that I had canceled the...
we were in the same position awhile back! you should be okay with everyone except the black australorps, barred rock and maybe the wyandottes (we didn't have wyandotte chicks but we did have cuckoo marans.) Those three looked identical. Supposedly the australorps have white markings and the...
