From what I can tell, she only appears to be annoyed at being followed around by you, and she sounds normal to me, nothing odd. Also, the only part of her that appeared fluffed out are the feathers towards her rear, which looks normal to me as well. Some girls are more fluffy in that department...
Update: He hasn't lost any more chicks. The only change he has made was the removal of the bedding. It was pine shavings from a commercially available source. I told him that it was possible they could be eating the small bits of that instead of their food. Or that it could be tainted bedding...
yep, know all that, the temp has not been the issue, beaks were dipped and he's seen them all drink and eat. They don't show any symptoms up until about an hour before dying. It started with what appeared a similar breed and has now spread to other breeds.
He has two brooder lamps set at different heights for varying temps underneath plus plenty of area for them to get away from the heat. He's taking out the bedding now, which was pine shavings, in case that was tainted or in case they were eating the small bits instead of their food. I've used...
I raise my young poults with my mature turkeys now, starting at three weeks of age. I start them out by keeping them separated by hardware cloth so that they can see and get used to each other. They all tend to get along just fine. Turkeys in my experience are more laid back than chickens and...
A internetless friend of mine has week old rare breed chicks he ordered from a reputable hatchery that are dying. He has lost 4 so far in the past two days. None of the birds appeared to have had a rough shipping experience and all seemed fine and healthy for the first three or four days. From...
Double breasted bronze, roughly 17lb +/- butchered. They are pastured, non-organic feed but from a local feed store that makes their own. Just butchered one for myself for thanksgiving and it was amazing.
Thank you all so much, that was just the kind of feedback I was looking for. I already have two mature pekings and love them, so I leaped into the duckling world. Here we go!
First time seller of farm-raised turkeys and I'm not sure how much to ask for them. Anyone here have experience with this? I'm the butcher too. Turkeys are roughly 20lb.
Good Golly! I thought I'd post and boast about my plans for adding another 45 sq ft onto my existing coop, but I've been upstaged! I'll not tell my birds about this, seeing as how there's 19 of them now in what I've already got, wouldn't want them to know about your palace! I think your coop...
I'm not going to butcher any now. They all seem to be on the mend. None of them were lethargic today and a noticeable decrease in the congested sounds and sneezing. Thanks everyone.
Thank you for clearing CHF up for me. I may take the one that seems the worst and see what I might find inside him, but I'll probably wait on the others. If I have one die on me then I'll really reconsider. I wouldn't think that CHF would happen to multiple birds all at once, but then again, I'm...
We have one midget white turkey and she is a doll! We've become so attached to her that we ordered 11 BBB's to take her place on the table. Hopefully at least one of them will be a big jerk and not make it so hard us!
