    Roosters fighting each other

The two flocks have been kept separate for 3 weeks, but side by side where they could see each other and get used to each other. I would not put new chickens in with my established flock without quarantining them first to make sure they're healthy. So, that having been said, even though...

    Roosters fighting each other

I'm just so bummed out this morning---yesterday we integrated 5 hens and one young roo into our existing flock of 17 hens and one Serama roo. It hasn't gone well with the roosters The new roo is a Phoenix/maybe Game? mix and is, of course, larger than the Serama roo, but that little booger is...

    Raccoon Attack

My hens are just about 14months old now, so they really were just coming into their own at the time of the attack which was about a month ago now. They seem happy, they're well taken care of and healthy so I can't see any other reasons that they not be laying. Just have to wait it out I guess.

    Raccoon Attack

Thank you for your thoughts and encouragement. We're looking for a "guard dog" now for yard duty at night. Sure hated losing them, especially that way.

    Raccoon Attack

A little bit of background: We've had our coop and 9 chickens (2 roos, 7 hens) for just over a year without any problems. About a month ago now we had a raccoon attack and kill 1 rooster and my 2 most prolific layers. We've revamped our coop with beefed up security and no problems...

    New Behavior--losing eggs!

The first one I found seemed to have a soft shell but the second one looked fine. She's about 2 years old, so not a new layer. As I said, her eggs have been perfectly normal for the couple of months that I've had her. I regularly add either their own egg shells back to them or provide oyster...

    New Behavior--losing eggs!

I'm relatively new to the chicken world so I'm still learning about their behavior. My EE is doing something unusual for her of late. She's been pretty regular in her egg laying for several weeks and she always laid them in a nest, but recently she's had a couple of "accidents". First I found...

I'd rather watch my chickens than TV--so, I guess I'm crazy too :-) It's nice to have company.

First time letting my chickens free range. HELP!

So glad I found this thread! I have 9 adults that I purchased a week ago and have been waiting to let them free range until I was sure they know where home is. My plan is to let them out late afternoon for a trial run. Since they normally head for the roost about 5:30 I figure an hour or so...

    New Here...

Hi All-- I'm new to this site and new to chickens so wanted to introduce myself. My name is Jamie, I'm located in Texas, transplanted from California 12 years ago. My first experience with chickens, other than eating them, began a couple of weeks ago with the building of our coop. We...
