Chicks are now Chick - ens at 5 months and everyone survived ! No eggs yet, but combs and wattles are filling out and rosying up. Big Roo 'Albion' is now a rather aggresive roo which I am not totally happy with, but maybe its just teenage hormones checking in and he will mellow out at least...

For those of you with no Chicken experiences (other than barbecue & eggs…)
Preface: The best way to...
My guys are pushin 6 months, 2 Wel not laying yet but the two Golden Lace Wyn one is laying 6 eggs in 7 days, I think its just her, only seen one in there so far. She was laying on the shelf under the perch which is fine but found a nesting box today. So still no deep brown chocolate freckled...
Hey EngTeach, thanx for Emily Dickinson phrase, have to add that one to my quotes page for sure!
Haven't gotten my first Welsumer egg yet so don't know for sure, but I thought they are supposed to be a deep chocolate brown???
Probiotics can be bought for farm critters in a powder form that mixes in the water same as the apple cider vinegar. I keep a mixed solution in my fridge almost always and give them a quart in with their regular water. I used about a Tbsp of the vinegar in a quart of water.
Or you can just buy...
Nurse Shelly of Gilbert. If things don't work out for your Blue Araucana let me know. I am just getting a large kennel situation set up to divide my banties out from the standards and Big Roo only has 4 standard size ladies...
GOT MY FIRST 'LITTLE' EGG TODAY. LAID ON THE SHELF AND NOT IN THE...
Have you tried a probiotic solution and cider vinegar??? When my guys get droopy that has always been the first thing I have done. Also oregano oil on her feed if she will tolerate it???
As much fluid as you can get into her, flavoring the water??? the more fluids the more flush in all areas...
Hidey Hole Chickens.
I have only had one chicken disapear on me, inside the coop... And the only way out was by human hands undoing latches. Interestingly enough my back gate into the neighbors was left open and I had heard voices in their back yard late the night before. Geeez I even...
No Worries. I'm a bit stressed out about this and life in general at the moment. I really want to keep him and work it out, but just got my hours cut back to 25 from 40, so not even sure if I can feed myself. Also was starting new biz part time teaching art in schools and out of my home studio...
Yes I have been attacked by an over large RIR Roo that I had to cull out of a low pen for a friend cause he was literally raping the hens. He came at me full force and I had a box ready for him and it was done.
I am not advertising this guy is a sweet docile guy. I am putting out there that...
Hey Golden Feather, I was having the same prob with uploading one of my pics today, I think it was just too big and was taking too much time and got internet timed out. Can you downsize your pics to 72 dpi before trying to upload??? As soon as I reset my pic to web size it loaded just fine!
BIG ROO always looks ticked, seems to be his nature, he was a skittish young'n but was still eating out of my hand a month ago. Had a bunch of kids in on Halloween and he was fine, not happy but fine. Then wham he starts attacking me out of the blue, guess I should have seen it coming, hens are...

Hello, I am new to this forum, but thought I would check it out cause I have a 5 month old Welsummer Roo that has turned aggresive. Unforetunately I don't have the time or inclination to try to teach him whose boss and I have art students I don't need scared off by a Big Roo.
I've never had...
ARIZONA CHICKEN LOVERS!!! I have decided it is time to find better home for 'BIG ROO' aka 'Albion' he will still get his portrait painted entitled 'BIGGER THAN LIFE' but he needs a bigger environment with more hens than I can provide. Nor do I have the time or inclination to 're-train' an...
Yeah, I like the idea of 'Rooster Whisperers' how far are you from N AZ??? LOL We will sort it out one way or anothger. I have noticed with the dawg and horse whisperers that it takes time and conistency. Exactly what I don't have enuf of right now. But LOVE all your ideas! I have worked...
My issue isn't really with the Big Roo, I am planning a portrait of him called 'Bigger than Life' unless of course he turns mean to the hen's and that I have experienced from others and luckily never been my own issue. I can work around him if I have to with kids out there, but I just don't...
Great reading, kinda makes me feel guilty. I hand raised my first batch of chicks this year, they are a mixed batch with two Roo's I am hoping will be able to keep together. At 5 months everyone is maturing quite nicely and up until a month ago there were no issues. All of a sudden Big Roo...
BIG ROO 'ALBION' NEEDS NEW HOME!
Anyone have a large bunch of hens free run that wouldn't mind a very business like 5 month old Welsummer Roo. HE IS A BEAUTY. Unfortunately way to aggressive and I have young children that visit for art and 4H Club so need a friendly Roo.
Would love to...
