Looks like a mallard. You can feed it peas and corn or hard boiled eggs made into small pieces until you can get dome duck starter. Duck starter can be found at a feed store. Or you could bring it to a wildlife center where they can r and r it with ducklings its age. Just make sure to keep it...
I thought of doing that but the egg has a small crack in it from the beginning, it looks like the water may be able to get in. I'm just too afraid it will ruin the egg.
The others hatched yesterday and I remember setting one egg at 11pm so this one must be it. I candles it and tapped but I didn't see movement the whole egg is pretty much taken up by the chick but I can still see veins. Do the veins still being visible mean its alive?
The temp has been 37.3 most of the time, its never been higher than 38 and humidity has been around 40 or 55% in a forced air incubator. The chick was completely normal and was growing properly as far as I could tell.
I have a chicken Egg That Is at the end of Day 22. The chick has been fine and growing properly. I candled yesterday and it was moving in the Egg with no internal pip. I Just candled again and i didnt see any movement but i did see veins by the air sack in the space that the chick hadnt taken up...
Tysm! I was afraid to turn off my incubator cause I didn't know if they were actually dead. 5 of them are for sure dead and 2 I'm not sure about. I'll candle again tomorrow but I'm pretty sure that they're all dead. I was sad, but it happens. So I'll start incubating a new batch if eggs in 2 1/2...
So I've been incubating 7 eggs for one week now. The incubator I'm using is really old and very, very manual. The temp on the incubator is ok until I leave. I go to school 7 hours a day and when I come home the incubator temp is wayyyy too high. My humidity has also been a big struggle. I...
Thanks! I didn't know about calibrating until after I started incubating. I haven't calibrated my hygrometer but I get the feeling its lower than it says. If this hatch doesn't work out then I'll just incubate another batch. I'll hopefully get a fully automatic incubator next time. Thanks for...
I'm on the 6th day of incubation and my humidity has been around 45-55%, is this ok? Will they have problems when hatching? Also are there any tricks for candling brown australorp eggs? Thanks
You should wait until the chicks are completely dry. Wait for as many to hatch and become dry as possible. When/if you take them out you should do so when no other chick is far into the hatching process, so if there are other eggs in the incubator you can take the DRY chicks out, but if some...
When and if chicks hatch, wait until they're dry and fluffy before putting them in the brooder also wait for as many to hatch and fluff up as you can (you don't want to ruin the other chicks chances at hatching). Make sure the first thing the chicks get in the brooder is water first, then their...
