Our farm store doesn't have any. I bought her as a year old hen but I'm fairly sure she wasn't vaccinated. If she's still hanging on by the time I get home from work tomorrow I will see if the next town over has some poultry vitamins. Thanks.
Came home from work today to find Florence on her back with her legs up. She had laid an egg and pooped in that position. Her rooster was standing on her and when I shooed him off she did not move anything except her head. She is alert and has bright clear eyes. She was fine last night...
So glad to see the bandana idea. I had an injured 2 day old (I think) chick in my bra but I knew I couldn't sleep with it there. I'm kind of an active sleeper. Maybe the bandana will work. I have a heat lamp but hate to put just one little chick in the box alone.
These two have 6 eggs and she's showing no signs of going broody. I'm pretty sure she couldn't sit on more than 6. I am thinking about incubating them but I really don't want yet another seperate pen to raise them. Is there a chance she will raise chicks if she hasn't been broody? I'm kinda...
Poor girl. I checked in her before bed and her feet felt cold again so I'm holding her and snuggling. I laid on the couch with her and as she sleeps more water is coming up and draining from her beak :( I wonder if she drank a ton to try to move something else through.
This girl came to us with a bit of a wheeze which we got cleared up but she still didn't seem right. Her eyes look tired and she is less active than the others. Otherwise fine. This evening she didn't open her eyes when I picked her up and her feet were cold. I gave her a warm soak with some...
There is no vein there. It's thin enough and pale enough to see through. I may try to clip it tomorrow. I don't want to stress her out but I think it looks like something I could do without moving her if she'll let me.
I kept my humidity higher at the end and got 3 out of 12 and one of those needed help. In that case though he had pipped and almost half zipped then stopped to take a break. That night the humidity dropped below 50 and he tried for two more days with no progress. Even after I increased the...
My wheezy girl seems to be doing much better but her eyes still seem off. Actually the area around the eye. She never has the big round eye like all our other chickens. She kinda looks tired. I don't really see anything wrong though. She eats drinks and attempts to cackle with the others -...
I have trimmed beaks before - just not a broody. These are my first broody hens and it is surprising how quickly this one's beak is growing. I just was worried that it may get out of hand and be harder to deal with later if it keeps growing at this rate. Also I thought that she may be harder...
One of my two broody hens has a very fast growing beak. She is my nice one and I think I could trim it without moving her. Has anyone done that? Is it likely to stress her out and make her leave the eggs? Ugh, I can't figure out how to fix my typo in the title.
Thank you for responding. Is dubbing when they remove the comb? If so then, no. They were previously housed outside with little peotection from the wind. The rooster got frostbite and lost his tips. They were a little rough when I got them. Long nails and such. I did mix some fresh...
I got these cuties and two more a week ago. They have been on quarintine in my laundry room. The smallest one in this picture was mildly wheezy and her eye area was pale, kinda puffy, and tired looking. She also sleeps more than the others. I was trying natural things over the weekend but by...
