    Yolk sac not absorbed

I hatched a peep this morning that has yet to absorb the yolk sac. I know it will absorb in time... but was wondering if its ok to take out of the incubator and put in the brooder box with the rest, before it's completely absorbed?

    Chicks going downhill...

Sorry... I forgot to add that detail about the supplements they're all on. I did start them all on Poly-Vi-Sol a few weeks ago, realizing I didn't have them on a medicated feed, which is part of what I attributed to them getting better. I quit giving the vitamins by mouth and put some in their...

    Chicks going downhill...

I hatched 7 peeps in the beginning of July. All seemed well until a few weeks ago. The first one came down with splayed leg at about 4 weeks, then #2 did the same thing about a week later. Brought them both inside and treated them and both got better, up and walking in less than a week. #3 came...

You might want to get her on an antibiotic. You can pick it up at your local farm store.

    Poly-Vi-Sol with iron

Quote: If I'm not mistaken Iron is ferrous sulfate. There is ferrous sulfate in the ingredients on the Poly without Iron, and it's not on the supplement facts list, on the back of the bottle. Am I to assume one is a lower dosage than the other?

    young chick off his legs

Try a few drops of poly-vi-sol everyday. If it's gonna help at all, you should see results in less than a week. I currently have 2 chicks on the poly-vi-sol for a similar problem. The one went down, and once I put her on the drops, she was back up on her feet in 6 days.

*UPDATE* splayed legs in 4 week old chick

Thank you... people think I'm crazy for the things I do for my chickens. But I have managed to save 5 little lives. I enjoy my flock, and will do what I can to keep them happy and healthy

*UPDATE* splayed legs in 4 week old chick

I have a 4 week old chick that all of a sudden quit standing and walking. She seems to stick her legs out in all different directions. She is still ok otherwise, eating drinking, pooping etc. I've read up on leg issues with very young chicks (1 - 2 days old), but haven't seen much on older ones...

What sex is my Polish Crested?

Thanks everyone. I was pretty sure I was right, but he's the only one I have, so I didn't have anything else to compare him to.

Pecked neck of 3 week old light brahma...

You are going to wanna make sure you keep them separated until they are completely healed. If you put them back in before then, even with a scab, they will just end up picking it to death. I had a 10 week old roo that had a hole in the side of his neck from a hen attack. I let him heal...

Can anyone tell me exactly what breed this is?

Quote: This chick came from a hatchery, so I'm guessing it should be a purebred something. It was just marked as "fancy breeds". I was told by the store clerk they were silkies, but none of the ones I got had 5 toes.

Can anyone tell me exactly what breed this is?

That was one of my guesses. The other was a booted bantam, but i can see it doesn't have the regular bantam tail end on it. Thanks.
