We raised jav crosses our first time for food, at 18 weeks they were small in comparison to the freedoms we just raised at double size in 12 weeks..We werent thrilled with the taste, there wasnt much to them, the texture was weird, and we didnt love the flavor.I willl be cooking up a freedom to...

Eko, I sent her an email wih a picture and she said she looks just like her RIR, but smaller..she ordered heavy egg layers..hens..she ended up with alot of RIR...but you said she didnt lok like a RHR, right? Im going to keep her, shes so cute!
Think we will harvest these guys next week..
hhhmmm....no advice from the other freedom raisers, to wait or butcher now?At what age are you all havesting these guys? Will they have another growth spurt at 12, 13 weeks?
yea, I like her too, she has been raised with 25 freedom rangers, but I have stoofd firm that she is not one of them..there was a mix up with another lady and she was rasing RIR, my son named her mary...amazing the size of a heritage breed to a meat bird, huh? obviosly we will keep her!
I noticed someone said on here to age w/o removing feathers..My partners in this business put them in the fridge as the last step before freezing...have we been making this mistake? What does it matter?
I cant believe these guys are already 11 weeks..Do i wait to see if they fatten up more..or go for it..I dont have a postal scale, but weighed myself and then myself with chicken in hand and got between 5 and 7 pounds...Not sure how much bigger they will get? So naked thats what, between 4 and 6...
I know, im pretty proud of them..they dont even eat alot of the good 23% food..just mill scraps..And they are heavy...going to have to get a scale and weigh them..i swear they seem as heavy as my brahmas, whom are much larger then them..
Okay...so these guys are at 8 weeks yesterday..I dont have a scale but they are heavy...Been feeding wheat scraps from the mill, compost, and about 1 gallon of 23% gamebird in the morning for 30 roos to share...They are freerange from about 8 am untill 7 at night, although they dont stray to far...

I went with the meatbird crumble at 21%, cost ws $13.69 for 50#. I started them on that, then switched to the grain i get from themill at 4 weeks, when they went outside. The grain looks like mostly wheat, but they said its whatever the sweep off the train that carries all kinds of grain..$5 for...
All ross here, and process to happen in 5 weeks? I hope..Same cost..problem with crumble is it seems I feed all the wild birds as wel, but if 25 is to high, then so be it..
My freedoms are at 7 weeks now and look good, however I ve had them on straight grain(wheat, barley, corn) and forage, and Im thinking they need more protein then they are getting..So the question is of my two local choices, do I want Gamebird pellet 25% OR Meatbird crumble 21%, and whats a...
We culled him today..Dont know what it was..but letting him live that life was no way fair...I wonder when this will be emotionally easier for me...Lol
