I can only speak from my actual experience and say that I do have experience using them and they have worked. Can't speak to what others have done. You do have an adjustment period in the beginning. I have always erred on the side of to loose out of caution. You usually start loose and adjust by...
I agree, if you are within the law then the neighbor has to live with it. However, in the interest of neighborhood peace there is an alternative option if you were so inclined. They make no crow collars for roosters. You can buy them on Amazon among other places. They work by not allowing the...
No, I haven't. I started asking around on here but will check Craigslist out to see if I can find anything similar. I haven't seen many people selling the Bielefelders. I've been very happy with them and am working on improving my flock. Thanks for suggestion.
I'm going to have several Bielefelder pullets for sale over the next few months. I'm struggling with how much to sell them for. They will be sold at 16 weeks, so pretty close to point of lay. Does anyone have any suggestions on what a reasonable price would be for them? Thanks
I have a bunch of pullets that I hatched with broodies over the summer. I'm planning on selling when they are around 16-18 weeks. I'm wondering if anyone has idea what a fair price would be? The roo and hens came from a commercial hatchery.
I'm looking for recommendations for a scalder. I'm looking for one that isn't super expensive but good deal for the money. I need one for processing between 100 -200 birds a year. Anybody recommend ones you've used?
I agree they just need time to get comfortable. My last pullets didn't start roosting until around five months. That was with hens there to teach them. Some just seem to take longer to roost than others. I've had some that roost from the start and others take 5-6 months. I wouldn't worry.
Sounds like not enough hens for two roosters. They are just gonna keep fighting. Chickens are social animals and don't do well alone. Hope they end up OK.
I have gotten several bags of the Purina flockraiser crumbles with grain mites in them. I just bought a bag and opened it to find a mite in the bag. I don't see any evidence on the outside of the bag. I was wondering if anybody else has had these problems with Purina?
Yeah it was a fun project that the whole family helped build. Chickens seem to be happy and healthy. We wanted to make sure they weren't crowded, lol! We are looking to add 10 more chickens as we have liked them so much! So were trying to do whatever possible to give them a good home. In the...
I thought about doing something like this. I however am hesitant to put a hole there due to blowing rain and such that get in there. My plan is to put a better wider metal roof on but still think blowing rain could dampen the floor/roof from time to time. I may try to add some sides to the top...
Hello all, my wife and I have taken over a flock of five chickens from our neighbor. We converted our kids treehouse into a coop/treehouse about three months ago. We are new to chicken keeping and have absolutely loved getting into it. We live in central Virginia and have been getting very...
Thank you for your response. I am probably scared of the free range thing at this point because I don't want her to get eaten. But yes she is headed back to neighbor's home. Not sure how she knows but she knows. I will keep her in run for a while and maybe try again later.
