MOVING!! Need to design/build a transport coop. HELP!

Thanks we are looking to design something that once we arrive we can use for a temporary coop for a few weeks until we decide what we'll be building down there. Our new home is a rental with option.. If everything works out we'll be on 7 1/2 acres permanently.. There is a nice run area already...

MOVING!! Need to design/build a transport coop. HELP!

Hi Everyone. We are leaving South East MA for NC in about 4 more weeks.. ok 5.. but it feels like less. We are trying to develop a coop that we can put on a trailer and tow behind us to move our 7 chickens. I would appreciate any suggestions at all for design as well as ideas of ensuring a...

Integrating a pullet into mature flock?

Well I had seperated out the broody hen after noticing the egg sabotaging going on, and put a divider between the brooding area and the remainder of the coop. Coop is not large, but large enough for the hens we have. I do agree it's a matter of pecking order and eldest hen/boss...putting the...

Integrating a pullet into mature flock?

Over the winter I had a cochin hen that refused to stop being broody. I finally caved in as it was an especially heavy snow winter, and allowed her to set on a couple of fertilized eggs I had purchased. In the end the other hens bullied a few eggs away from her.. never sat on them and only one...

Our combination shed/coop construction so far...

Well hub went out and bought OOPS stain for the coop.. You know the color that didn't come out just like someone envisioned so it's on clearance for pennies on the dollar. Our coop theme (yes I do plan to decorate around it.. don't we all? lol) changed suddenly with it's new navy blue and white...

New Englanders! Much ado about New England!

I still miss NH..sighs.. just loved living there. 10 years wasn't long enough. I pretty much despise suburban MA..which unfortunately is where I am stuck. Hub and I are working to make our tiny yard our little oasis.. and when we got our approval to have some backyard hens.. that about signed...

    Anyone have new chicks coming?

...handling all conspired to let the cocci get out of check and take over. If I had remembered half of what I used to know sighs.. I might have saved a couple.. I didn't think of corid and poultry drench until we lost the third chick.. of course it all happened in a matter of 2 days.. *sighs*

    New chick pics

It's been a long week and I worked overtime last week so I haven't had much time to catch up on here. We are figuring since we were able to save a few they ended up with coccidosis.. so easy to get when they are that little and under stress. The breeder and I agreed it was a foul weather day...

    HELP! losing another one..sighs

...to. Our coop is almost finished for the chicks to move out into.. I think it will be easier for them out in their coop in a brooder box than in the house... I find myself checking their thermometer nonstop as my house easily gets *too* warm.. I am hoping to breathe easier when they are out...

    Anyone have new chicks coming?

LOL it's tough.. In my town I am zoned rural residential. When I called the building inspector to find out if I was ok for hens only (didn't even consider a roo as the houses in my neighborhood are close together).. He told me I could have a few hens as pets providing I kept their living...
